Potential Griz Recruiting Targets

Most of what I am posting I have posted on my twitter page over the past 4-6 weeks with and is an update on some rumored Griz recruit targets. The first player I thought should be of interest to you guys.

Matt Staudacher 6-0 PG Lake Washington high school in Washington, Yes I do believe he is the brother of former Griz, Ryan Staudacher. Has been gaining a lot of interest this summer and fall. He has proven over the summer he can play the point for a very talented AAU team and his stock has risen. Described as a "heady point guard with deep shot" Has interest from Denver, Idaho St., Montana, Penn, and Portland St, but I do not believe any offers yet. ESPN rating NA

Sekou Wiggs 6-3 SG O'Dea high school, athletic scorer. Cal Irvine, Cal Poly, Idaho, Portland St. and San Francisco have offered, UC Davis is trying to get him down for an official visit. I hear both Montana and Montana State have been recruiting and depending on who you talk to depends which school is more serious. I have been told he will take an official to "one of the Montana schools" but I am not sure which one. ESPN rating 88

Mitch Brewe 6-8 PF/C Seattle Prep high school in Washington, Big time scorer (23 ppg) and rebounder (just under 10) a good Seattle area team. A hustle guy but not overly athletic. Army, Montana, Drake, UC Santa Barbara have all offered and St Mary's showing a lot of interest. ESPN rating 88

Ty Egbert 6-9 pf/C Lake Roosevelt high school in Washington. Is said to have offers from Boise State, Idaho, Nevada, and Washington State. Montana and Montana State. Has that elusive quality coaches love right now: length (meaning he has long arms and can play bigger than his height) better athlete than many expect and runs the floor well. Has official visits scheduled for Boise State, on Sept 23rd and Montana State for October 1st. Don't be surprised if Montana schedules an official visit the day before or after his Montana State visit. ESPN rating 88

Tanner Sampson 6-4 SG Regis high school in Aurora Colorado. One of the best shooters on the west coast, and has a very high Basketball IQ. Keep an eye out Sampson he is a guy I continue to hear associated with the Griz. Will visit Montana on Sept 17th, Elon Sept 10th and Pepperdine Oct. 1st. and is said to have offers from Utah, UC-Santa Barbara, Denver and Northeastern. with interest from Wyoming, Portland, Creighton, San Diego, Drake, Cal Poly, South Dakota and Cal State Bakersfield. He has taken an unofficial visit already to Denver. ESPN rating 85

Lucas O'Brien 6-10 C from Perry high school in Gilbert, Arizona. He is a real physical center but can step out to about 15 feet and hit a jump shot. Has a nice soft touch away from the basket, His stock is souring right now and a lot of schools are trying to get in. I am told Northern Arizona has been recruiting him for a very log time and they feel they might have an edge. The Griz are hoping he will wait until they can get him on campus before he commits. He has an Official visit set for Northern Arizona for Sept, 9th and a visit schedule for the Griz the second week of October. Weber State and Air Force are trying to secure official visits and Fresno State, UC-Riverside, Denver and UC-Santa Barbara (and the list is growing) are trying to get involved. I think O'Brien is a priority recruit for the Griz.

In addition to these guy Rivals, Scout, and a few other sources list the following, but I am not sure how current this info is.

D'Vonne Picket 6-0 PG Central Arizona JC (ranked a top 15 player this year in the JC ranks)
Kisima Jagne 6-5 PF Chandler AZ (most likely will play football)
Joe Burt 6-2 SG St. Cloud MN
Derreck Brooks 6-4 SG/SF Mesa AZ
Trevor Priest 6-5 SF Mesa AZ
Jordan Belton 5-11 PG Hollister California

YES.......This means basketball season is approaching.

Even better, Tanner Sampson's HS is only 5 miles from where I live. I will have to check out some Regis games this year. They will play several other High Schools within 10 miles of here also.

Willl have to find time to attend games that don't conflict with GRIZ Football and Basketball.

Lucas O'Brien, Please!

Hands off, PeauxRouge. :) The Griz take enough of Arizona's high school football talent. No need to start doing the same with high school basketball players.

I live reasonably close to Central Arizona College and will do my best to check out a game this year (D'vonne Picket, PG). CAC's womens program is a power but their mens program always seems competitive but not top-notch. Any excuse to watch some hoops is a good one.

+1 bigs should be the priority with this recruiting class (although Wiggs looked pretty good too) O'Brien sounds like he would be a good start. Seems like true bigs are getting harder to come by.

Thanks for the scoop mslacat!

One guy who slipped my mind before but was reminded of him last night

Marcus Colbert 5-11 PG Post Falls Idaho. Cobert played two years with current Bobcat Shawn Reid at Post Falls. Colbert's father and head coach at Post Falls also has multiple connections with both the Griz and Bobcat programs/coaches. I believe he camped this summer for the Bobcats, but I am not sure, but I know he was in Missoula and tore up at the Griz Elite camp this summer and was the best player I saw there (granted I only saw a a few games). Colbert is a very explosive play maker who can create his own shot or those of his team mates. Athletic and quick is most likely the leading candidate for the Idaho 5A player of the year. Averaged 16 ppg, 5.2 rpg and 4.9 apg last season. I believe the Bobcat coaches just yesterday. I was told Montana offered him during their camp but I do not know if they are actively recruiting point guards at this time. Anyway I have not heard since this summer whether they are still actively involved with Colbert. Idaho & Idaho state have been very active I am told and I have heard that Washington State has been sniffing around as well, but Montana State is the only program, that I have heard, at this time who have an offer on the table.

Does this mean that the Griz are not recruiting any Montana kids, or that they are just under the radar? Selvig is the only Montana kid on the roster right now, if they don't at least get a walk-on it will be down to 0. Wonder how often that has happened?

Missed on Mr. Bradshaw, but we do have Nick Emerson walking on this year.

By the way, Tinkle likes Emerson size and versatility. There are just so many scholarships to go around. I will not be surprised to see Emerson earn a schoarship for 2012/13.
