Below is a transcript of Oregon coach Mario Cristobal’s postgame press conference.
MARIO CRISTOBAL "Overall, again you never apologize for victory. We’d like to be a little bit more sharp in some of our execution in a couple of different phases.
"A couple of guys were held out of this game, later in the week thought that they weren’t healthy enough to contribute at a high level: Austin Faoliu was a guy. Juwan (Johnson) was really close but we held him. Bryson Young was a guy we also held out of the game. As well as Kahlef Hailassie. Thomas Graham, we feel had a minor tweak in the game. Mykael Wright stepped in and did a great job. Jake Hanson is being evaluated; he was pulled out of the game. Cyrus was having some back spasms so he was held out as well.
On 3rd/4th conversions and why they went for it so much on 4th:
“Because we got to get better at it. we got to execute better. We knew they were going to have a challenging scheme due to the amount of odd plugs, cross blitzes and whatnot and we were going to have to be very disciplined with their tracks, playing with your hands, making sure you’re giving backside help with your backside hand. They made some plays. We made a couple but credit to them, they made some plays as well. And it’s something we got to improve upon.”
On why starters played late:
“I’m not sure how many possessions we had total I just felt we needed to keep playing until we ended on something a little bit more positive. You only get a certain amount of snaps; we’re headed into conference play add while Justin is in there I want to make sure he’s surrounded by the front-line guys. I wanted to play a little bit more football before I pulled the guys off the field.”
On run game, limiting CJ Verdell: “A little bit of both. We did not run the ball very well in the first half. Came on the third quarter and started getting some more chunk yardage then had a couple of negative plays there early in the fourth quarter then had a couple of other ones. Definitely a lot better in the second half. I don’t know statistically where it was but I know we didn’t do a good enough job in the first half we knew that it was going to be one of those deals where look there’s enough stuff in there where you got to control the line of scrimmage and prevent negative plays. The way they were winding their A and B gap blitzes, their cross blitzes, their stunts, their N-E stunts being the nose and the end and the vice versa that there were going to be some free-hitters at times. Sometimes when you’re running five on five or six on six blocking schemes that it may happen and they got us on a couple, credit to them, and a couple of other times we got them.”

More credit from him to UM defensive scheme:
"We knew they were going to have a challenging scheme due to the amount of odd plugs, cross blitzes and whatnot and we were going to have to be very disciplined with their tracks, playing with your hands, making sure you’re giving backside help with your backside hand. They made some plays."
For just dialing it in waiting for TH to come back, this DC seems to be pretty good. I didn't think he had enough experience, but maybe he has. Ha.
