Post game: time to hit the panic button?

Sacred Heart…..Weber……EWU…..all tell the same concerning story. Jump to an early and easy and almost effortless lead (3+ scores) and then completely take the foot off the gas, go vanilla, and get out of rhythm. Then, when the need arises to get back the “juice” and open things up, it’s hard to capture. They are finding it hard to just turn back on if that makes sense. That is a concern and I think the coaches going so awfully plain and vanilla so damn early isn’t smart either.

Absolutely--after 8 sacks, more QB pressures and hits and 2 picks, 24 points allowed, and our 10th " W," it's absolutely time to panic and pee down our leg 🦵 😳 🤣, " We're 10-0 and We S U C K, dammit. !!! "
Yes, and 3 points allowed in first 29 minutes of 2d half, despite D being on the field most of the time.

OK, drama queen. The Griz are rated at near the bottom of the entire FCS and at the bottom of the Big Sky for pass defense. If that doesn’t worry you then you are a Pollyanna. Bless your heart!

If it doesn’t worry you, then you need help. Could not put a mediocre team away and in reality a botched spiking of ball away from a loss. Faking a punt up two scores with diminishing time a factor was stupid. If they had punted that extra yardage needed would have eaten enough clock to make that horribly played onside kick defense not even out there. They need a serious wake up or the cats will destroy them and not sure with this defense they can stop MSU anyway as their QB and Taco will have a field day across the wide open middle of field

Maybe this game is the wake up call.

Somewhere between "absolute panic" and `"The Griz are 10-0!!" lies the truth, as always in the middle. And Brint has done an excellent job of handing out kudos where appropriate while not glossing over this team's obvious deficiencies.

This is as concise, well-written and fully documented a version of the truth as I have seen on this board all year.

My concern is that in a year that we have some of the greatest playmakers ever to don Griz uniforms--certainly Eli Gillman and Michael Wortham, with Ah Yat growing into a major force--our defense remains highly suspect, the secondary as porous as I've ever seen.

Didn't take much for an opposing coach to look at the tapes and say, "We're throwing sixty times." It's a miracle we escaped yesterday.

Can this be fixed? In one game? In Portland? Before the Big Dawgs come visiting?

I remain hopeful but skeptical. The main hope now is that this offense becomes unstoppable, as in Q1 yesterday, and not Q's 2,3 and 4. Time for Brent Pease to show his greatest chops, to make his mark at Montana.

Griz are one of the few undefeated teams in FCS and the only undefeated team in the Big Sky conference. Griz D withstood being on the field for most of the second half and the EWU passing onslaught. UM is 8th in the nation in Red Zone Defense. EWU was 4-7 yesterday. UM is 22d in sacks, slightly behind NDSU and UND. UM is 3d in the nation in interceptions. The Griz aren't giving up many long pass plays. Who's the drama queen here?

The D won the game for the Griz in the second half yesterday. The secondary is not porous. Due to injuries, they are playing more zone and keeping everything in front of them. 33 yards was EWU's longest completion in 63 throws. EWU scored 3 points in first 29 minutes of the 2d half. And scored 1 TD with a minute to go.

this…… if EWU had just a few seconds more to play there’s no doubt in my mind we’d have lost that game. Our secondary couldn’t cover a bed with a blanket. When they scored that last touchdown I literally turned to my buddy and said, “They’re getting this onside and we’re losing this game”. Glad I came out on the wrong end of half that prediction, but my god, both offense and defense looked pretty bad yesterday. Offense couldn’t move the ball at all after the first quarter and put the outcome of the game on a defense that’s more porous than Swiss cheese.

If UM had covered the onside kick, converted on the fake punt, gotten a few more stops on 3d down, picked up even a couple more first downs on O in the second half, etc. etc., the game wouldn't have been close. The D isn't porous. You are clueless. The D is ranked high nationally in Red Zone D, sacks, and interceptions. In 63 passes, EWU's longest was 33 yards. EWU had a fairly low completion yardage number. Why can't you look at the whole D and all the stats, instead of focusing on a few things?

Throwing this out there...possibly is Hauck doing plainness on both sides of the ball to throw off MSU when everything will be unleashed?
One can only hope.

No doubt he’s sitting on some things. Though that certainly was not the issue yesterday.

The offense went from looking great initially to looking ugly all on their own. We weren’t hiding anything, except our guys talent. Our guys had an off day. They are better than that. They’ll clean it up

The defense was on the field for about 40 minutes so I’ll cut them some slack. Their problem was EWU had game planned better than our D coordinators. EWU constantly hit short dump off passes in the flats. Five yards or more a pop. Their blocking schemes were designed to pick up our blitzes. That was their RB’s primary job. They missed a handful of times, yet allowed their guy time for the most part. In which case their QB was finding the receiver in the void left by our blitzes. Automatic first down. Our coaches did not help the cause. Our offense never left the locker room after halftime. They just had Morrison go punt each time we had the ball.

All around an ugly game. No not time to panic. Just a good time to get this ‘stuff’ out of our guys system. Shake it off and refocus. Coaches get coaching, that is a larger concern. Go Griz!

End of the day we were lucky to beat a 4 win team at home being led by a Freshman in his first start in Novemeber when we're supposed to be improving/at our best. I think a bit of panic and concern is warranted and understandable.

Granted the worst thing the Defense had to deal with was the offense abandoning them after the 1st quarter, after that I'd have to say the coaching/play calling is what screwed us up the most. EWU picked apart our defense like it was nothing and Pease couldn't call a decent drive to save his life, they out of anyone need to pull their heads out of their ass and get their act together. Bottom line if we play like that again, especially if the offense can't execute, we will lose.

Our D had a good, not a great game, with 8 sacks, 12 TFL's, and 2 picks and as Hoops has mentioned, did a good job of keeping everything in front of them, giving up no huge plays.

We've played 10 straight games with no bye, our secondary is somewhat beat up as a result, and considering the lopsided TOP yesterday--37:48 to 22:12--our D held up relatively well !!! Our offense had their worst game after the first quarter, and Eastern's defense deserves a lot of credit for that. !!!

And the most important stat yesterday is NOT we held Eastern to 28 rushing yards or gave up 451 passing yards, the most important stat by far is the W--we're 10-0 and no one else in The Big Sky Conference has less than 2 losses !!!

Go GRIZ. !!!
