Post Game: The offense needs to improve

This was a 6 point road loss to the number 6 team in the nation and the Payton award front runner. The Griz had a legitimate chance to win it on the last play of the game. Sure there are some concerns, but keeping this loss in perspective. Go Griz!

…imho…

Guess you missed them driving for a TD on the first drive out of halftime.

With a couple long first down runs!! But Harris gets only 2 runs in the 4th quarter?

 ..

The one after EWU got stopped and just before the Welnel INT? The Griz 2nd drive of 2nd half had no effect at all on the game.

A 6 point road loss, in which we led 21-10 going into the 4th quarter, then proceeded to get out scored 22-7.

24 - 7 in the 4th quarter. Two INT's by Griz but no real "short" fields for EWU. A 75 yard drive in about 5 plays after Humphrey's pick in the end zone? Defense sure responded there?!

"But the defense was great all game and it was all Cam's fault....... although they ran on 1st down every time. But our RB that gained 130 yards in the game ran it only twice in the 4th quarter? And Hauck saves TO's instead of having another 30+ seconds on the clock for a couple more plays at the end of the game! Always good to keep that last one in your pocket so you can call it with 4 seconds left and the game clock stopped anyway. :thumb: "

Like I said, there are concerns, but this one game isn’t the end of the world, or the season. The Washington win was great at the time, but I think it gave the fan base some premature national championship expectations. Now we know how we stack up against other top 10 teams. There are things to work on for sure, but I never expected this team to 11-0 this year.

Looked to me (I could be wrong) EWU played 2 high safeties most of the night. Time after time I would see a crossing route be open or a curl route. Cam seemed to have success on the curl and crossing routes. There was a few times he went to Akem with a TE crossing being wide open. taking little chunks were there through the night. Also, better play action. When Cam held the ball a little longer he would run. His holding the ball kept the D close, maybe holding longer on Play Action would hold those backers longer. Eastern's D Coordinator deserves a lot of credit. He believed his DB's could handle Akem and Co. knowing they had help and they did just that.
