Tough damn loss, there's some tough things to talk about after this game but there's also a lot of positives moving into the post season.

It’s Sunday morning and as I’m starting this post we’re a little over an hour from finding out Montana’s seeding in the playoffs. My hope is we’re the 3 seed, it does seem like somewhere between 3 to 5 is the most likely. The loss / sting of the Brawl yesterday is already wearing off on me, I think the Griz and Cats are pretty evenly matched and it really does feel like a rematch is on the horizon - we’ll find out soon enough!

Let’s get the negative shit out of the way early. Bobby Hauck since his 2018 return is now 2-5 against Montana State, that is unacceptable. This rivalry is really lopsided of late and not in our favor. Hauck repeatedly has shared his top goals for all the kids he coaches; 1, graduate with a degree, 2, beat the cats, 3, win a national title. His kids get great grades and are graduating - he’s doing excellent there in his focus on emphasis on ensuring forward success for these STUDENT athletes. However on the remaining two goals… not great.

I think the odds of Montana scoring twice With 8 minutes in the fourth, given the pace at which the Griz were scoring, and MSU's ability to run down the clock, were really low.
Football is played in quarters. You most likely have to two win two to win a game. Montana lost all four.

Score by Qtrs:

1st - Griz 7 MSU 10
2nd Griz 7 MSU 7
3rd Griz 7 MSU 7
4th Griz 7 MSU 7

In what universe is that Montana losing all four quarters?

Great post Brint. I'm with you and thought the long TD drive in the 3rd quarter was going to be the difference in the game. Especially when we stopped them on their next drive to get the ball back.

I though Kenzel Lawler and TJ Rausch and the rest of the secondary played one of their best games. Bobby said in the post game press conference that they kept it simple on defense. I don't know if that was by design or by necessity.

I would have liked to see the Griz defense employ a spy on Lamson, one who can be in coverage and also spy at the same time.

The scats were keying on Wortham yesterday- we need to find ways to get him the ball in space to make plays or use him as a decoy.

The severe shade on BH is unjustified.

Yes, Ah Yat had a good game and we love him. Unfortunately, he wasn't the best QB on the field yesterday. Lamson was uncontrollable in spite of 4 Griz sacks.

and the scats only had 2 sacks. Not sure how the scat defense was better than the Griz defense.

Did the scats rush for more yards? Yes but they also had more attempts (42) for a 5.7 average.

Griz rushed 28 times for 6.4 yards a carry.

You can make a case the scat defense is not as good as advertised.

What shade? The record is the record, Bobby states his goals and he's failing on 2 out of 3 of them.
Agreed with Lamson, guy is big and fast and was the best player on the field yesterday.

Great write up and I'd say spot on. I do have a hard time saying the holding and pick six were errors. The holding call was bad luck. I watched the replay. 11 for the cats does this... watch worthams td. He gets hands inside and pulls, makes it look like the offensive guy is holding. Regardless, if that holding call is called, you could damn near call holding on every play in fcs d1 football. Some are called, but way more egregious holds are not called. The pick six... id say MW catches that ball 9/10 times. Credit dowler, hes been in the right spot at the right time a lot this year and is a stud. But that ball was tipped... right to him.

The trenches definitely favored the cats vs our d line. I wouldve liked bobby and our defensive staff to call the game more aggressively to shore this up, and bobby alluded to a conservative / simple called game defensively in the post game presser. Our offensive line allowed a few sacks, but hardly got overwhelmed by their d line, and we rushed for 180. We can improve there, but I thought it was pretty neutral in terms of matchup.

I'm eager for a playoff run, with the guys finally getting a week off. I thought Tolbert was definitely still hobbled yesterday, so maybe 2 weeks we'll see him closer to 100%, and my guess is we'll see kyon loud back. GO GRIZ 💪 💪💪💪

He did everything Lamson did and then some. We can hash out the details of the pick six, but I don’t believe that was on his shoulders.
I don't either, I love Ah Yat and he played great, shows the talent on both teams. Lamson just got it done when it was needed.
