J.J. is amazingly tough. He's playing with an injured throwing shoulder that probably won't get any better the rest of this season and very well could require offseason surgery.

That's news to me.

If you still have the game on your DVR, watch the coverage just as halftime is winding down. They show JJ warming up and you can see the evidence. It really caught my eye at the time, and may explain some of his longer passes being off target the past few games.

I noticed that too he winced bigger than shit then rotated his arm as if he was in pain.

I have seen him roll his shoulder often .... been wondering if something like this might be the case.

The rest of the season is going to be hard hitting. If UM goes into the playoffs and maybe even the full distance to the NC you have wonder if JJ can take the abuse on an injured shoulder.

I would hope he doesn't really severely aggravate or permanently injure himself.

This is where having such an early bye week can come back and bite ya in the butt. No off weeks to get these dings, bumps, and bruises at least starting to heal. Not much will wear a guy out quicker mentally than being in continual pain. I'm sure they are doing all they can to mitigate it and I hope for the best for him. He's shown he's pretty mentally tough so I'm sure he'll done fine as long as it doesn't get worse.

The rugby style punt by Shaw was obviously done just to try and hit an opposing player so that the Griz could recover it, and it damn near worked.

It was a very workman-like, low-mistake victory. If we had played a game like this last year, we would have bragged on it all year.

The only thing this game taught us is that we are vulnerable up the middle, particularly with with QB draw/scramble and crossing patterns. Their only real drive was when their QB tucked it. If that fatty can run on us, we got some work to do the next 2 weeks.

We were vulnerable to it on ONE drive. If anything, we just need to focus on not coming out flat after halftime like we did yesterday.

Exactly and it was without Tonga Takai on the D-line. That QB was not known to be a scrambling type and fooled the defense a few times since they were dropping Coyle into coverage. After that they tightened right back up.

Because they made halftime adjustments and we had to wait and see what their adjustments were before we could really make ours :thumb:

Slice it how ever you want, the fact remains that UCD's most success came when their SLOW qb scambled. Yes it was ONE drive but they never tried it any other drives, probably because that's not their game plus they were behind. Regardless, it does not seem to bode well for us the next two weeks (esp w/o Tonga) but i'm sure our D will adjust, maybe with a spy. Point is, it seems like a possible weakness in our D but we haven't really faced a seasoned, true running qb yet to know.

Even the greatest defenses in football give up TD drives. Our national championship teams gave up many of them

It was an excellent win, and a fantastic performance by the D. Enjoy it.

This was a something he had not shown all year so it was a wrinkle the Griz did not consider, then again he did it because the D did not allow him much else.
