Post Game: Good to be home again

While I will agree that Kris Brown did look very good yesterday, I do agree that he came in at a point when the game was over and was playing with and against backups. I thought Humphrey early on looked nervous yesterday, but after he threw that first TD pass to Sulser he settled down and I thought he played pretty well after that. Bobby has commented often that he tends to get pretty nervous. He mentioned directly how nervous he was in the EWU game. He’ll have to work that out because we can’t have a tight, nervous QB for the first half of the game or it’ll be a long season.

With regards to Brown, if he’s not the starter this fall, he will be next fall. The kids got a lot of potential and with him and the Britt coming in, the QB room will be a bright spot for years to come. That said, I’m very impressed with how well Brown has developed. I don’t really remember him being that great of a QB in high school. He was good but he had a lot of great talent around him, so I’m impressed with how much work the kids put in.

Who had a better day at QB?

I assume the guy picked by Grady Bennett as the player of the game.

I thought you might have your own take on the QBs, thanks for giving an update on Grady’s thoughts, Grady obviously has merit in his thoughts about the QB play.

Brown's completions were to wide open receivers. I think the backs.could have made more yardage out of some holes. That 23, or whatever his number was. was a good tackle for CW. He had 18 tackles, 11 solo. He should transfer to UM.

Humphrey could have had several more completions if he’d finished his progressions...he missed a wide open TE in the flat on that funky INT/TD pass into triple coverage.

Yes, on not seeing that receiver. Also overthrew to a wide open receiver in end zone (altho a blitzed was coming up the middle hard). Still needs to hit a receiver that open.

...can you share Grady's thoughts...I was at the game so I have my thoughts but did not hear Grady's....

He said Humphrey was player of game, and he would be happy to take on all comers who may think Humphrey shouldn't be the starter.

--I thought Brown looked good, more natural fluidity.
--I think Ostmo missed some reads, but CWU's Hamilton was everywhere that day. I think having Knight and Harris as 1 & 2 down backs and give Ostmo carries in either power and short yard situations
--Sulser was awesome, even the announcer gave him the ringer of Mr. Electricity briefly
--Pretty sure Flowers did all that was asked of him
-Akem ran good routes
-I liked the play of Fouch and Corbin Walker
--Could we have Robbie Hauck, Flowers, and Sulser all back as returners and have the flying 'V'?
--Other than the wide-open miss to Mitch Roberts in the end-zone, where was he that game? I have my money on him having a greater role as I think he has the best hands on the team?
--Where is Garret Graves, did he get any safety play?
--Simpson kid from Bozeman looked pretty good at WR-will he be buried in the depth chart along with Kellan White?
-Our 2nd team/squad LBs looked pretty good, which of them will make the active rotation?
--What was the deal with CWU's Rainwater making all those catches?

Only one way to cure Brown from playing against the scrubs!

Rainwater is a STUD!

How about that INT by Koppang with a cast up to his elbow?

Agreed, that thing is a club! Took some serious skill.

Also how bad was that throw he picked? It looks like the receiver is running a go and looks like he wants to fade toward the side lines. The QB, who isn't hit and isn't really pressured throws it so far inside and deep that I lost the ball during the broadcast and couldn't believe where Kopang caught it. Had it been thrown by a GRIZ QB it would have been "legendary" and not in a good way.

That was indeed a terrible pass! But it was still an impressive interception by a one armed man! Imagine how good he could be with 2 arms!

Yeah, Mikey, not trying to take anything away from Kopang. He looks like a player; some work on the special teams last year and this year moving up the depth charts. Plus you sure can't question his heart or toughness.

Sulser was awesome.

Brown looked great, but it is different when starting with a 20 point plus lead and facing a D that has been softened a bit. Still, he looked good.

Akem could have been called for PI on the TD as well. It was right in front of me, I thought for sure he was going to get flagged. That was a beautiful throw by Humphries.

I talked with Graves' high school coach at game. Apparently he has been banged up all spring and only practiced a couple days before game. Hopefully we"ll see more of him this week. He did get about 3 series on D and played on kickoffs. Looked good in limited role.

Hill looked good at LB.

It was so nice to be at a friggen game!

I'd forgotten about him, but yes, he impressed me as well in limited playing time.
