I guess my biggest gripe(s) is punting twice inside the 40. Playing the field position game is fine, but this point in the field you have to try a FG, get points on the board in a road game. Playing conservative makes me crazy, play to win.
The other thing was that slow developing rush when the Griz were pinned at the one.. boy, that was a head scratcher. Kefense was playing with fire with that play call as that could have very easily been a safety had Canada not bailed the OC out on that one. Quick toss from the shotgun across the middle seems like it would have been just as effective or moreso. That single play literally could have cost us the game.
Jones.. our offense would be awful without him. He's been tremendous this year with the absence of Hendo. Janssen didn't look real good today, Burke had a couple of nice catches, but Jones has been the anchor of this passing game.
Been up since 3:30 am and running on caffeine and the joy of taking my two kids to see their first GRIZ game, so these few observations need to been taken with a grain of salt. Also "I never played the game" and as a Canadian never played the game worse than most Americans never played the game. In no particular order;
1. We really missed Ralston while trying to run. Mitch Saylor is a nice match up problem at TE but run blocking is not second nature to him.
2. American McDonald's coffee is lousy, it is hands down the best "fast" coffee in Canada. You guys should get someone to look into that.
3. The hit on JJ after the whistle was appalling and should have been an ejection penalty, also we have had linemen here in the past who would have reacted by killing the UND player and then going after his family.
4. Our offensive line is aptly named! I know that Reese is a kid and as such I am cutting him a ton of slack. Dietrich got abused a fair bit today and if we have burned this kid Luke's redshirt year I say give him more reps at center because ....yikes.
5. Waggs is a god and was held on at least three occasions in the first half, UND fans, who by the way were super nice and very classy, please don't say our guys held too, because we all know you have to be in contact with a defender to hold and as we all saw that just never happened.
6. Of the two penalties that UND got for hitting receivers the first looked like a pretty bad call, to quote former All-Black great Tana Umaga "It's not bloody tiddlywinks out here is it?" The second looked like it might have been legit as he appeared to lead with his head.
7. As Brint touched on John Ngyuen did not have the best day in terms of decision making.
All in all, glad we have a bye week coming.

I've noticed a lot that the o'line will have two guys go for one defender on the outside allowing a line backer to come in on the inside untouched. This happens so often and not just today, but all season.
The coaches should be picking that up on film.
Why do you continue to run the ball in th fourth quarter when the passing game is working better and you only have 42 yards rushing all game.
It just feels like the coaches are not making good adjustments and taking advantage of what this team could do. We did not wear this team out running the ball, UND as well as Wyoming and NDSU did not get worn down by us running the ball all day. It's only wearing out our defense.
There, I think I'm done. I feel better.

Kramer has last year's doormat playing way above their heads.
MD has the Griz playing like, well, last year's doormat. In the words of my third grade teacher, this team is not living up to its potential. MD and his OC's are coaching like they never played the game.

One thing that becomes apparent under strong coaching is time management. My details are not not spot on (correct me if I'm wrong) but at the end of the game when Shay hit Jones on the deep pass, there were still 40 seconds left on the board and we had two time outs. We get to the ball and run Canada to the left. He gets tackled for a loss and the coaches run the clock down to 2 seconds and make Sully attempt the field goal from the left hash. Yes he made it...thank god....but how many ways could you manage that to give you the best opportunity to win the game? Our kicking game struggled so obviously you hope to get a TD and get the hell out of Grand Forks. Get up on the ball after the long pass, spike it. 2nd down, take a shot at the end zone or whatever..time out. 3rd Down, at least position Sully in the middle of the field for the FG attempt! I found myself very frustrated up until we made the FG. Thatababy Sully
We knew it would take the O line time to gel and mature. But this game seemed like a step backward. They seemed to have a ton of guys in our backfield before we even had a play start. We are certainly being exposed. The run game is just not moving forward.
That being said, we are 2-0 in conference and there were a lot of interesting scores today. No one is unbeatable.

There are a lot of missing Griz starters right now. AS much as I agree with the concerns posted on this board, it really isn't reasonable to suggest the play calling can somehow be modified in a major way. Kids like Reese, and Cooper Sprunk, and Saylor and Jansen and S-H etc. Are doing well just to execute the scaled back playbook. No coach in his right mind --struggling just to get all 11 kids to do the right thing at the same time-- is going spring new plays on those guys in mid game.

Hell, I recall only 1 play in the 1st half they ran 2x's. That was the short flare passes to Van. I challenge anyone here to watch the diversity of play calling in that half and compare it to rest the games this season. There was a huge difference in the type of plays they called. They actually utilized the middle of the field short, medium, and long!!!! Since then, and before then, same old same old vanilla play calling.

Exactly what I thought. Now, I'm no PlayerRep, and don't know much about football, but are we not trying to run a pro Style Twin Tight End-and-fullback power running game with the youngest, lightest O line in the history of modern Griz football? Something has to change.
