Post Game: A team on the rise

Funny how the offensive line is getting lost in the head lines. They are dominating games in the Big Sky right now. Gresch Jensen has all day to throw the ball and the Griz now have a running game (EVEN IN THE RED ZONE). If that group keeps playing the way they are the Griz will be a tough out.

Absolutely true. And I think depth the next few years will continue that trend!

A good o-line doesn't fit in with the narrative of a bad o-line and a bad legacy left over from the Delaney years.

How much of a difference does having Germer back make for the o line?

Watching this game with regards to defense was very frustrating. Guys in position and poor tackling. Needs to be addressed as ISU shed a lot of tackles.
Also it seemed like ISU and frankly other teams we have played seem more physical, meaning stronger. ISU QB often seemed to drag Griz D. I heard positives about Griz strength and conditioning coach. However are we lacking there by chance? Just a question.

All the difference in the world if you ask those that he's coached.

Sort of assumed that was the case. Offensive line has shown marked improvements sinceGermer came back.

That goes more to our propensity (desire?) to keep them upright and attempt to strip the ball rather than get them to the ground...we give up probably 100 yards per game doing that...really don't like it.

A couple of the biggest improvements from last year have to be
1. Red zone TDS
2. Sacks given up
3. Rushing yards per game

Still one of my biggest concerns is wrapping up and getting the ball player down.

All three of which are a direct reflection of the tremendous improvement of the much maligned O-line group. :thumb: :thumb:

I think the loss of Davidson inside is hurting us more than we might be willing to admit.

Absolutely agree. Tackling must improve and DL must keep containment of the QB when they get pressure and the pocket collapses. There were too many almost sacks yesterday that led to Gueller scrambling for a 1st down.

The ISU o-line opened up some pretty big holes in our D, which was concerning. They had some big gains running right through the center/guard gap. That Madison guy was a beast.

#1 RB in the conference right now.

They need to get lower and grab. You can't arm tackle someone's upper body or throw your shoulder at them and expect to bring them down. Watch Mac Bignell for MSU. Buss usually does a pretty good job at that.

If the D can make strides and really the two areas would be wrap up and play up. If that happens this team could really make a run. Offense could be lights out if they keep progressing. There are so many weapons for GJ to use and if and when he fully matures is going to make this offense explosive again, it's almost there now. I loved that super fast up tempo coming out at the half. I really hope for a strong finish to the season as I would really like to see what can happen with a full compliment of scholarships at Stitts disposal. We forget this team is down no less than twelve full rides from that ncaa sanction.
Is kind of funny how we love the recruits this staff is bringing in but bitch about the staff. It's a young team and staff. Let's get with them, not on them.

You could be totally right. I need to rewatch the game but it seemed like most of the big plays seemed to occur after we had collapsed the pocket and noone stayed home to contain rather than their lineman blowing big holes in our D line

I'm stating that statistically he's the #1 RB in the conference right now. don't disagree with your assessment, however.

Good to see us win a gritty one. Hopefully that gave the players a taste of a what “playing angry” can do.

Oh yeah sorry wasnt meaning to include your comment. I am sure he you are right that he is the #1 running back.

Good assessment Brint.

One point is the 4th down attempt that worked out. What the hell are we doing. There is 10 minutes left in the game. We're holding a 4 pt lead and we risk handing them the ball inside their 30?????????

Grateful it all worked so well. QB made a great decision and got the 1st down. Yet under those circumstances, anyway you cut it this was a bonehead call going for it. :ugeek:
