Not so fast, my friend

Portland St beat us on homecoming in 2018. I realize that both teams are different in 2022 then their 2018 versions, still homecoming games end up weird sometimes. I’m probably just being unnecessarily nervous.

This Griz team would kick the ever living shit out of that Griz team. Like double digit win. We have come a LONG ways since 2018!

Exactly why I stated “I realize that both teams are different in 2022 than their 2018 versions”. 👍

Homecoming games can be distracting...Griz have had some issues before. Good post.

I think every team the Griz played is a quality opponent.

Yeah I don't see them as "bad" either. All the other top teams played a Pioneer league (non-scholly) team and those could certainly be considered "gimme" games, while all of UM's opponents were full scholly FCS schools. Both South Dakota and Indiana State hail from the MVFC which is touted as the "best" conference. The only thing missing on the Griz schedule was an FBS school, but the other top teams all lost their FBS games anyway (including the mighty Bison). The Griz did exactly as they should have done during the non-conference schedule and in some ways exceeded expectations. Now on to conference play.
Not very good sounds better than bad.

South Dakota is far better than the other 2 teams we played and they are mediocre or a little above average. The FCS is watered down, severely. Bring JMU, SHSU, OD, GS, App etc back and SD is a straight bottom dweller. Instead they are a little above average in the fcs right now, which is not a good look for the f. Every team we have played so far are teams we should always beat by 20+ points. We won't know what we have until we play Idaho and Sac St. After those games we will know where we stand.

South Dakota might be a cut above mediocre. They were a playoff team last year and beat a semifinal team during the regular season. Losing to the Griz and Kansas State so far wasn’t really a surprise. There are years where we might have considered this a “quality win,” but we will see how their conference play goes.

Some would say that playing three weak teams in a row does little to prepare our team for conference play. Generally, I subscribe to that except I wonder if any of the conference teams will be much better, so maybe it doesn’t make much difference?

I think the first team that’s worth a damn on our schedule is surprisingly Idaho. They look much improved this year. Until then we will not be truly challenged, and if we are it’s because we’re not playing to our potential.

I can concede that our SOS to date hasn't been great but I just don't see the point in complaining about the schedule. It is what it is and none of the other top teams have a tougher non conference schedule.

Really? There isn’t a position group on the field I have less concern about as far as depth goes than the WR group.

That will be tricky, since Utah Tech is the new name of what used to be Dixie State.

Well it’s Utah Tech and some other D-II school I believe.

Yeah that's not great. Utah Tech is one thing but at least they're FCS. There's really no upside to playing DIIs. Scheduling isn't an easy job though - gotta get 2 of 3 non conference games at home, and you don't want to have to pay them a bunch of money, plus they should be winnable games, etc... Seems like the Big Sky/Missouri Valley series is a good thing but that doesn't guarantee great opponents either. I'm just glad we're back to complaining about the quality of opponent rather than crying over losing games we should have won.

Except that the Griz because of who we are "The Mecca of FCS wether we are winning or loosing will always get the opponents best shot, especially if they come to WGS.
Agreed, the MOVE UP TEAM PORTAL is dissolving or watering down the FCS. Missouri Valley and the BigSky are about the only legit conferences now.

You mean if we lose:
Bergen
Fontes
Flowers
Simpson
Grossman
White
Roberts
Williams

Yeah if we lost most of all those guys then we will have to rely on

Knight
Ostmo
Harris
Barker
Elwell
Rensvold

Funny, I was thinking the same thing. It sucks not having any depth. Wonder what the Kittens are thinking about their RB situation.

Fergus St or something like that I believe.

Ferris state, and it’s a terrible game to schedule. For one they’re D2 and don’t count toward playoffs. For another they are one of the very best in D2 and will be hungry to beat us. It will definitely be their super bowl. They crushed central Washington this year, a team we recently played for comparison. It’s not like they will be a pushover. I’m not saying we will have a problem beating them, but that they’re not exactly a pushover, and are in fact much better than probably at least 1/2 of the FCS outside of the big sky, mvfc and caa….and we will be their super bowl, and there is exactly zero incentive for us, nothing to win and everything to lose. There is exactly zero chance we lose the game, I’m just saying it’s a dumb game to schedule, as it’s basically worthless.
