Post Game: A mixed bag of results

It's good to see egriz is in mid-season form, maybe even already getting geared up to make the message board playoffs.

1. Wanting the coach fired after losing a close game to a higher division school

2. Saying JJ isn't a good QB

3. Saying we gave Van the ball too much

4. Saying our DC needs to be fired or that our defense sucks after they went +2, had 6 sacks, and held a bigger/stronger team to just 17 points on the road.

5. Quantifying the Griz TDs as being "lucky" and suggesting that maybe they shouldn't even count

6. Having EWU and MSU fans come on here bemoaning the end of the world for the Griz.

Am I missing anything? haha

I wouldn't be surprised if JJ keeps throwing the ball 40 plus times per game. Our run game was lethargic! If we wanna be a good team, we can't be so one dimensional, otherwise our d will be out on the field the majority of the time.

Question: Have any of you ever tried to throw a wet football in the rain, either into or with a 25 mph wind?

And if so, could you drop it on a dime like you armchair experts seem to expect JJ to be able to do? It ain't something you practice.
I know you are delighted AZ. JJ is healthy and we LOST the f'n game. These are your priorities...I can't make this up.... ... :egriz:

And you're a retard. We can't make that up either.

Ya, Rim thinks JJ's throwing for 388 yards and 4 TDs against playoff team CC, in very cold weather with 5-10 mph wind, is playing poorly. That's pretty funny.
He missed some easy... critical throws by a mile...not typical of the JJ we know. You're an expert at picking out pertinent stats to your points. kudos to you. He did not play to his standards, and we LOST both games. Winning is everything. spinning is what losers do... :egriz:

Berkeley is a great school and great place. My daughter was gearing up to go to Berkeley law, but got accepted by Stanford and gave up her to $120,000 ($40,000 per year) merit scholarship at Berkeley to go to Stanford with no merit scholarship. Started last week.
A good friend of mine is director of recreation facilities at Stanford, and he just loves the place. He's a UM fan from our years of working together on sports matters, and so he says Monty (Mike Montgomery) always talks "Griz" talk with him when they cross paths on campus. He gets a kick out of that since he's never actually been here; it's all second-hand fandom.

I had a retired Berkeley coach here visiting this summer; he got his start at UM 50 years ago, and enjoys returning to Missoula to visit once in a while. He says the same thing, that when he sees Monty, Monty always talks about Missoula and how much he enjoyed it here.

No, you about covered it Brint.

This board IS a lot more fun after a loss, I will admit that.

There's a big difference between playing "poorly" and "not playing to his standards/ability". Again, JJ did not play poorly against CC.

Winning is not everything--in football or in life. It is important, especially in higher level sports and it is certainly the goal, but it is not everything. Pointing out that a qb threw for 388 yards and 4 TD's, and had a better than decent passing efficiency, against a playoff team in very cold weather, is not spinning. It's pointing out the basics. You just want to be negative about everything. You "spin" to the negative side.

Why is it both QB's struggled? Before judging the QB's this early, maybe it would be best to see how each QB does when Mother Nature is not so powerful. Throwing a wet football accurately is difficult, let alone when there are 20 mile per hour winds factored in also.

Strategically speaking, both teams put together solid game plans. Both defenses executed well too. I'm sure the offenses and QB's would have shown slightly better with better weather conditions.

Only speaking for myself, I will give the QB's a few more games before determining how good of a college QB each is, especially Wyoming's QB. That was his 1st start. I am sure he will show better as the season progresses. JJ has shown over time, he is a damn fine QB and leader. As his OL improves, so will he and the offense. My bigger concern, Will the staff stop hindering this offense, and let them play up tempo more? What more evidence do they have to see to do this?

some have said EWU and NDSU would have spanked WYO, but i say no! I highly doubt it. Wyo was pretty big and good, they were all over. I think the Oline and Defense made them look weak. I can't wait to see Wagz and Harris terrorize the Hell out of Adams! go Griz   :thumb:

Uh, yeah, you missed something. I tried to start the revolution by installing a new offense last night. It's not a loss unless someone tries to install a new offense.

Missed that one!

Also did anyone suggest all new states and high schools to start recruiting at?

All in all, I was pleased by the Griz performance against a MWC team. Two notes I have: 1. The defense play against UW when the turnover gave UW the ball, and the D held with an interception in the end zone. That was a piece of D work! I see good things for this D in the BSC this season.

2. JJ was definitely off. This was clear to me that one time when he was under no pressure and threw to a wide-open reciever, and threw wide. I hope this is the one bad day JJ will have this season.

I hope the coaches realize that 3d qtr TD the Griz got was due to the passing game and will feature this more. We have a talented QB and talented receiver corps. Let's go with that tool. Yes, a run now & then to keep the D honest, but let's let JJ & his receivers get into a rhythm that not even an NDSU could stop.

This wasn't Iowa St. like ND St. dominated today. Wyoming is not a good team. It is no where near Arkansas St. that the Bobcats played today. I would be concerned if I were you guys.
lol

We lost to an FBS team by 5. You're an idiot.

LOL...I think the point he is trying to make is that, yea, you played an FBS team today, but one analagous to team like UC davis or ISU. Certainly not a power house. Probably not even middle of the pack at the FBS level. While on the other hand, Iowa st and Ark St are not shitty FBS teams, and they would absolutely crush Wyoming. Now, whatever point he was trying to make past that is moot. You can't say that since NDSU beat iowa st they would beat the griz because Iowa st is better than Wyoming, blah blah blah. What is for certain is that Wyoming was less of an FBS challenge than other teams (NDSU, MSU, etc) were playing today, which is reflected in the scores, as you only lost by 5 points, and were legit contenders the whole game.
Pure speculation.... Nothing more..

I have a little different take on it. I think whining is what losers do. Winners just get up from the ground, dust themselves off, and get back out there.

In truth having watched the game with 1,000 plus other vocal Griz attendees, Jordy Johnson really wasn't very consistent with delivering the ball and also showed some uncharacteristic confusion. I thought both the O and D lines performed admirably - for the first half. Between two unnerving weather delays and the effects of 7,220 foot elevation a Griz team drawing from a pool of 85 players instead of 63 may well have held up better as the game wore on.

As for the ongoing ordeal of our absolutely horrible placement kicking, I don't even want to spoil the day by going there... :shit:

I was at the game and have to say (contrary to BW and Mr. Tip) I thought the offensive line play was pretty substandard. Way too many plays ended with JJ on his back wondering where the pass went and who caught it.

I thought the decision to go on 4th down in the third quarter was correct, but the play that was run was a complete no-hoper. I can't say why the middle linebacker wasn't blocked, but he wasn't.

Taking the timeouts in the middle of the fourth quarter worked well. The Griz got the ball at about the 20 yard line with 6 minutes to play. Great opportunity to drive for the winning touchdown with little time remaining on the clock. Didn't work out that way.

The special teams miscues had little impact on the final outcome, but begs the question, why can't the Griz perform pretty simple special teams tasks like complete an extra point or block for the punter?

Griz nation did well. The best part was completely shutting down the UW cheerleaders at the start of the second quarter with a vigorous "let's go Griz" cheer. I've got a renewed appreciation for Wa-Griz.
