Post Game 6-2

The Canyon Club was packed. Boxes seemed to be especially full too.

The weather during the game turned out to be fine. I suspect that even some locals didn't go to the game due to the worse, and rainy, weather in the morning before the game.

I flew to CA at 5pm after the game, for the 49ers game yesterday. I changed out of my long underwear in the Missoula airport parking lot. Nice weather in Palo Alto, but the smell of smoke is significant. Was windy at the game yesterday. The 49ers are good. Former Cat and Glendive kid, Mike Person, is still the starting right guard for 49ers and played well.

24,000+ announced but it didn't look that way to me.
Tickets sold; not necessarily butts in the seats. A lot of no-shows among the season ticket holders. The roads were horrible, particularly coming from the east. The noon start is no help. Driving in a blizzard on unplowed roads in the dark is not for the meek or mild. Had to use the rumble strips to tell where the edge of the road was around Big Timber.

Oh for sure, at our tailgate we had guys bring our beer kegs over from Helena, their truck was covered in ice - apparently no plows out on McDonald pass in the morning. Heard that Rogers pass was closed for a while too.

Noon starts should be band... IMO

+1

Amazing how much better it was after daylight started to show!

McDonald pass was freaking terrible Saturday morning. Would love to know where/who you get your kegs from-I'd love to help you drink it! :thumb:

If you let me tailgate with you I could be convinced to bring some Map brewing Strange Cattle over.

So - what is the ideal time for game start for folks driving from far away? It seems like at Noon, it is too early because of crappy roads in the morning, and if the game starts at 2pm, it is too late, because roads are crappy in the evening.

I drive from Great Falls for every game. The early start times are rough because of the time you have to get up to get there in time to tailgate. Makes for a long day. 1330 or 1400 are ideal times and even night game are great start times. We stop in Helena at BW's on trip home. After we eat, the whole truck goes to sleep and it makes for a long 87 miles listening to everyone snoring, this is another reason why I dislike the early start times.

Can confirm that McDonald Pass was awful, but driving over it at 40 mph, it wasn't all that bad. We left Helena at 7:30 am and were surprised that plows were not already out clearing the pass.

That is a big problem in this state. DOT needs more plows or more plow drivers or maybe both. I am always ahead of the plows. Driving on a major interstate, I-15 from Great Falls to Helena and having four inches of slush on the road with not even a track in the passing lane is crazy! A two track interstate, nuts! McDonald was a little slick. I saw semi's putting on chains to go over.

Is it ok to drink a beer from Bozeman at a Griz tailgate?

Night games are perfect; only need one night accommodation. Noon is the worst. I previously described how much fun it was Saturday, the first two hours in the dark with blizzard and no snow plowing. It's not complicated. Two night accommodations in Missoula are becoming completely unaffordable. Our B&B just snuck in another $34/night increase (23%).

At my house, it is not permissible to give any revenue to the neighbors for any reason. It is, however, encouraged to stop at the rest area and piss on Bozeman on your way through! (And you are also encouraged to yell "Go Griz!" if there are any elderly volunteers pushing doughnuts in the foyer. They remarked that was rude, but I informed them that was nicer than yelling "Bobcats Suck!".)

When we were in Montana this summer on vacation, I was surprised at how terribly expensive hotel rooms have gotten across the state. Missoula was the worst but it wasn't exactly cheap anywhere else either.

Yeah - I know you've mentioned that before. I've just seen (or I'm probably not remembering correctly) folks gripe about the games starting later in the afternoon / early evening as well. :-|

I'm almost certain I've seen Kem bitch about them before.

- Garrett Graves just laying the boom on that EWU returner, my god. I'm not sure if he'll stay at QB or not, but I could see moving to safety in his future maybe. Love the way he plays on ST... and today as our 2nd string QB!

My question is this;
If Graves is still a backup to Cam, would they be playing him on ST? And if not, why have they not started developing him at a new position? Clearly he is a great athlete who can play. He can hit like a freaking truck. Are we wasting a talent? I know his high school coach well and he says Graves would play any position that would get him playing time. Just wants to play, doesn't care about the position. Just curious. I know you have watched more practices etc. than I, thought you may have some insight.

It's kind of like face tattoos. We live in a free country, there are no laws against it. Just be aware of how society is going to judge you for it before you make that decision.
