Position by Position breakdowns

My questions are. If we are to bring back all the starters from last year and they are the starters again this year what makes our O line better this year ? Because last year it was not very good. Norcross said he does not like to rotate much . Does that mean he just uses backups for injuries then ?

I’m not getting this narrative that we’re bringing back all the starters from last year when we’ve literally lost our two most decorated linemen from last year.

  1. I know I'm nitpicking here, but Grimsrud and Casey were starters last year, and neither are returning this year. We have three returning starters, and four OL with starting experience.
  2. Brown, Panfiloff, Klimczak, Botner, and Freitas all played significant snaps last year. Johnson and Buehler got snaps primarily on the placekicking unit. Seems to me that we have numbers, but until the guys who haven't played much show they are ready to step in without much if any drop-off, depth is an issue.
  3. 2,741 rushing yards in 14 games averages out to about 196 yard per game. That number would be over 200 yds/game if sack yardage was taken out. That's a good, but not great, number. Against UND, they ran for 160 yards. Against NAU, 158; 68 against Cal Poly; 77 against Davis; and 117 against the Cats. Not a surprise that the rushing numbers went down against the better run defenses, but with backs like Gilman and Ostmo, those numbers should have been better.

Are you not aware that most players get better from year to year? They often get bigger and stronger. They get more or better coaching. They improve through competition. Are you playing dumb or just dumb?

These are older/OLD players .At what time in their career should they be getting better? It's not like they were sophomores last year." They get more and better coaching." Really, you can't be serious? "They improve through competition." What competition are you referring to ?

I'm not sure what you did as a profession but did you get better at it the longer you did it? There is a huge difference between an 18-19 year young man and a 22-23 year old man. Not only physically but also maturity, confidence and experience wise. There is more competition (when you consider experience and maturity) in this O Line group than any I can remember recently. Many of these guys come in as freshman 50-60 lbs lighter than the starting o line. They have to get much stronger and bigger and SMARTER. I think playing O Line at this level is way more difficult technique wise than you realize.

That makes absolutely zero sense. Players are still progressing year over year in the NFL until they hit their peak around age 28. It is very common for college football players to greatly improve before their final season. That is why guys' draft stock rises relative to their class, because they improved more.

The post was intended for Hoops to reply since he had criticized my intelligence.

Please read my posts before responding. As you can read I was NOT referring to young O line players. I am well aware that it is not an easy occupation. Probably the toughest position physically and mentally to play on the team. You may wish to check your spelling since I am the only one allowed to post with spelling errors.

Your opinion but I disagree.

Most players get better every year. Players compete with each other and transfers every year. Had you ever played the game, you would know that. I truly can't believe you can say so many stupid things. At least, you are consistent.

That's not opinion. Are you saying that players don't improve between seasons in the NFL? If that is the case, you disagree with the entire world. Even discounting any POSSIBLY opinionated position on guys improving mentally and technique, it is an indisputable fact that men reach their athletic prime around age 28 and leave it in their early 30's. Even just being in the weight room at age 23 will improve strength and performance.

I mainly question your knowledge of football and Griz football, although I know what words I used.
