Position Breakdown: WR

I love that Holden is going to play linebacker. He is big, physical and is athletic with ball skills. All BSC'er at linebacker, no doubt about it. Look at the roster too, he is more needed on D than on O.

His 12 second one hundred times will have him doing well at linebacker.

Didn't he have both shoulders repaired? How much will that affect his hitting ability? How long will those shoulders hold up trying to fight through 300 lb O lineman trying to block him and making tackles? Hope he stays healthy.

So it sounds like the rumor about Holden moving to linebacker was incorrect?
Not a rumor at all...Holden has already made the transition to LB.
I think that's a smart move, after looking at the WRs we pulled in this recruiting class. Holden is built to be a hell of an OLB. Long, has WR speed, nasty hitter, tough mentality, I like it.

Well, if he ever has a foot race from goal line to goal line those 100 times will come in handy but don't necessarily translate into being skillful at reading linemen, shedding blockers, lateral quickness, the ability to drop into pass coverage or tackle. You know, things a linebacker might need.

Fast sure helps cover a multitude of sins. He's a football player, think he'll figure it out.

Absolutely, don't misunderstand, I think he will be a fine linebacker but saying his 100 times prove it is asinine.

Holden going to LB (assuming it's true) opens up a lot of opportunity for Bingham as he's really the only other guy besides Horner that fits at that H position.

Asinine? Not hardly. Holden has plenty of athleticism for the position, in fact he has a little to spare. I've watched him play 6-8 games and he could contribute in multiple positions. The kid is thick, strong, and has shown a plethora of football skills. His 100 m. times are merely an additional snapshot of his talents... :egriz: p.s.nice pr..k post though :thumb:

So, reading comp not a strong point? This was exactly my point. Holden, as I said, will be a fine linebacker. His 100 times do speak well of his athleticism, however my argument was that they are ONLY an indicator of it, not 100% proof. Judging by what we have seen of him he does have all of the intangibles and those intangibles, such as the ones you pointed out are a lot better indicators that he will be a good LBer than his 100 times. Slow Sunday?

Intuitive had a nice post. You threw out the word "asinine'. Total pr++ck. Why do you cut up people's posts? The answer is.. to dissect from the actual point they made. What does "what WE have seen of him" mean? Do you have a turd in your pocket? Seriously, have you ever watched the kid play a down of tackle football? Doubtful. Carry on poser... :egriz:

Very common surgery, just a long recovery...you can play through it without surgery, but painful. Good that he got these surgeries now. Perfect timing really. Most people come back stronger than before...in other words, this type of injury is not really indicative of an injury-prone person. Excited to see him at linebacker. He has the prototypical build and toughness for it.

i watched him play several times, he was bigger, stronger and faster than anyone else on the field by a wide margin...that must be worth something as a couple pac 12 teams were looking at him....we are very fortunate to have gotten him imo...

I am glad that Daum is focusing only on football, but it's interesting that his 2015 HS state championship time in the 200 of 21.53 would have won the Big Sky Conference Indoor Mens Track Championship very recently, held Feb 25-27, 2016.

Men 200 Meter Dash Championship:
Name School Finals

Finals
1 Fisher, James Northern Arizona 21.65
2 Lewis, Justin Southern Utah 21.78
3 Bobo, Dominique Montana 21.98
4 Ayesu-Attah, Ben Idaho 22.17
5 Kennedy, Isiah Northern Arizona 22.18
6 Mead, Alex Northern Colorado 22.19
7 Horning, Mitchell Montana State 22.24
8 Counts, Robert Idaho State 22.27

As stated before, I've watched Holden Ryan play since 7th grade. I believe he belongs on offense with the football in his hands. His 100 yard dash speed may not win a gold medal but his "football speed" will meet or beat anyone's. Yet foremost, the kid is instinctually a scoring machine. During his final two years of high school he racked up 40 Touchdowns, usually when the opposing defense and the entire stadium knew he was going to get the ball.

Krammer isn't far from the truth saying "he was bigger, stronger & faster than anyone else on the field by a wide margin." While there were exceptions on each of these points none put it all together like he did.

If they are going to switch him over to defense it will work out fine. He was a hell of a linebacker too. I am sure he will bring the same tenacity as a Grizzlies. If he is fully healed up Holden should have an exceptional career wherever they put him. None the less, I think he should be retained on offense as a receiver, or even as a running back. He was reminiscent of Chase Reynolds in that while he wasn't the fastest back he had an uncanny knack for finding the hole and exploding through it for a nice gain or a touchdown.

I agree with Krammer, I'm glad the Grizzlies got him and I'll be curious to see where they play him.

I can't fight you on his position, you've watched him more than I have. Obviously, they are positioning him where he can help the team the most. It was interesting, watching the NFL Combine yesterday. Slightly after 12:00, Mike Mayock said nearly all of the linebackers were high school running backs. (paraphrase) I think Mr. Ryan can be special at this position... :egriz:

With the current set of receivers on the books for you guys how difficult is it for them to work the Stitt system? My point being, that even though he states that his offense is about 50% run 50% pass, it appears that his big interest is to run unusual sets and schemes quickly to confuse defenses. So, is the WR position a hard one under his system, or, is it a simple set of routes that get run consistently and quickly by the group no matter who is in?

Sorry for the long question...

Hmmmm....subtract 1. Some of you are going to be crying like inconsolable little girls tomorrow

Seems like the answer to your question would have to come from the big man himself.

He has mentioned several times that they need different types of receivers. Smaller, shiftier, Wes welker type guys (Daum). Speed guys with hops and some size (Nagler). And bigger, tight end size guys with speed (Horner and Bingham).

It seems like we are getting the WRs that we need, they are just young. Stitt also stresses chemistry between his QB and WRs, since a lot of their routes are "open ended" and the receiver has the freedom to adjust the route depending on how he's being defended. We saw a lot of miscommunication last year with the ball going to an open space and a receiver running the opposite direction. Hopefully a year into the system has shored that up.
