PSU D-line concerns me. They will force CH to throw the ball. He is going to have to make some plays and our "preseason all American WRs" need to play complete games - no drops, clean routes.

This is not the ewu defense, and we did not see good o-line production vs sac d-line...

You saying PSU’s D-line is Sac State Level? I don’t think so....that kind of talent doesn’t lose to NAU or ISU.

No, I didn't say that. They will be better than ewu is what I said, and CH and the receivers will have to make some plays. I'm not sure the Griz running game will roll like it did last weekend.

You disagree with that?

There are teams that have had some success running against them.

ISU ran for 166 and put up 505 total yards against them
SUU's backs ran for 115 in just 25 carries, 4.6 ypc
Idaho's backs got 80 in 22 carries (but their QB's lost 41 in 5 sacks)
Northern Colorado rushed for 197 and averaged 6 ypc. Put up right at 500 yards offense
NAU had 88 in 19 attempts, a 4.63 ypc average

So, it's not necessarily our running game per se that I'm worried about...it would appear on the surface they get to the QB quite frequently, but digging a little deeper you see its not necessarily true so much against FCS competition (0 against ISU, 0 against SUU, 1 against UNC, 1 against NAU)

On the other hand, they give up a lot of sacks.

I think PSU's record this year is a direct reflection of the below average competition they've played to date. They have UM, Davis & EWU left. They're 3-2, 5-4, I think they end up 3-5, 5-7 at the end of the year.

For those not impressed with Portland's resume to date with two underwhelming wins of the NAIA kind, look no further than the result with their SEC opponent Arkansas....Expect Montana to receive the same effort from the Vikes on the road.........Always amazes me the amount of talent PSU has on a fairly consistant basis regardless of who their Coaching staff is...EEeahh, are things that bad at PSU $$ wise that they basically schedule themselves out of the playoffs with the OOC BCS/NAIA games?? Someone pulling the strings at PSU might need to go have their head examined...or is there just no money to pay the bills?

If they need money to pay bills, they shouldn't pay the NAIA schools for a game...

Come on AoD, a little credit to BW for the effort?

I've been laying low - REALLY low - convinced that I (and I alone) am to blame for Sac State. Not only do I kill threads - I kill momentum, I kill DOLA, I kill #RTD.

Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa. May my powers be henceforth only used for good. GRIZ good mind you.

So yes . . . thanks for the timely effort BW. But you take all the time you need each and every week. Forever and evermore. Amen.

AoD out.

We discovered our recording of the PSU - NoColo game on our DirecTV disk and decided to take a look yesterday. (Not much into the NFL.)

Granted that the Vikings are tough at home, and they do have some very talented players. But we were not as impressed as we expected to be. The Bears are not exactly world-beaters offensively, but -- as AZGriz noted -- they still put up nearly 500 yards against PSU. (They averaged about 5.8 yards per carry, rushing.) They scored 30 points, but that could well have been more. Most of the game was played in a stout wind that severely impacted the passing and kicking games. That wind negated at least two long bombs to open receivers, who would have surely scored.
The Bear QB still ended up completing 20 of 37 passes (54%), not great but not terrible either. While PSU hurried him a lot, they “officially” recorded just two sacks for a yard loss. Either Sneed or Humphrey would make the NoColo guy look like a random sandlot selection -- passing or running

On the flip side, PSU basically ran the ball down the Bear’s throat. They had over twice as many yards rushing as they did passing (344 to 170). And they did even better than UNC rushing: 6.25 yards per carry. On one later drive, than ran mostly up the middle and made first downs just about every other play. The Bears had some key injuries on defense, so the players out there seemed to be weak on fundamentals and overall ability. I can easily see the Griz shutting down the Viking running game.

Unless the Vikings play lights out at home (possible) and/or the Griz have a road let-down (also possible), I see UM pulling away to a comfortable win.

Nope... that was all Stitt’s fault. Trust me on that.

 I don't know how you figure that, but I'll cling to anything. Within reason.

Where’s a good place to get tickets to the Griz/PSU game two Deaf PDX Griz fans?

Where’s a good section to get seats in (preferably with other Griz fans.

Thanks in advance

I remember watching them celebrate last year like they won the damn Super Bowl. I hope we absolutely devastate them. I want grown ass little boy tears.

PSU picks up 4 more, Montana adds 6, 1 PUSH. That puts each team at 8-8 with 1 push. One thing to point out that while PSU’s kicker has a lower % of made kicks, watching him kick against NAU… he can smash it.

GO GRIZ!!

It's interesting seeing the comparisons between the teams from before the game and then after. Especially in the rushing and passing yards allowed by PSU.

True, but they took what PSU offered so passing was up and rushing down.

I was looking at passing yards allowed going from 250 for PSU to 335 for the Griz today. PSU only had 43 rushing yards when they averaged 213. Those are some significant numbers.

Yep. I put some numbers on another thread and "suggested" that the Griz defense is designed to shut down the run and "contain" the opponent's passing attack. That's looking more and more like a viable notion. And that, too me, looks like a strategy for the playoffs, where the top competitors tend to emphasize the run game.
