Portland State 54 Oregon 52 Final

Nice win for PSU and the BSC. The Big Sky needs more results like this and less 30 point losses to BYU (EWU).

I was more than a little surprised when I read this score. Is PSU that good? Or Oregon that bad? Or a combination of the two? I just don't pay much attention to the rest of the Big Sky prior to the start of conference play.

They are 6 - 6, haven't really beat any real good team, though they have beaten some decent teams. Best team they beat has an RPI of 130 based on RPI figures at http://www.midmajority.com/rpi.php. Oregon's RPI is 210. Worse loss was to Portland which has an RPI of 236.

But, it was a good win for PSU. Stanford has a lower RPI than Oregon, so PSU's win is better than Griz's win over Stanford. Especially since PSU beat Oregon on the road.

PSU is for real in the Big Sky.

I don't know alot about how Bball works but if the Griz are able to beat them both times doesn't there win over oregon help use in the end?

I would imagine so.

1). 50% of the RPI is based on the opponents winning percentage.
2). 25% of the RPI is based on the opponents opponents winning percentage.
3). 25% of teh RPI is based on the teams winning percentage.

Now, Oregon loss to PSU would figure into the calculation of Montana's RPI on 2). Only 25% of the RPI and Oregon is basically a .500 team, thus it MAY help a little, though not much if any. It won't help the Griz much if Oregon finishes with a lousy record (below .500).

It will help PSU much more because it was a win on the road, and opponents record is 50% of the RPI. But, more importantly, wins on the road are worth 1.4. Griz win over Stanford at home was only worth .6.
(losses are worth 1.4 at home, and .6 on the road. Better to lose on the road than at home.)

Good win for Portland State and the Big Sky. It just shows that the conference is much better than last year. This will be good come NCAA tournament time for whoever wins the conference. The Bobcats ;)

Can you spell DELUSIONAL? :loser:

i wonder how many PSU fans are going to complain about the win like one or two certain Griz fans did about our win over Stanford? hopefully none are that stupid. :tounge:
