Portal

Every time I look on any social media platform ,folks saying all those kids going to Colorado. Coach Sanders will do well in the portal, but not every kid leaving a P5 program wants to go to the buffs. It is getting comical actually. People actually think he will be so dominate year one they will change the rules next year to protect all the white coaches

Well, except for him picking up Lewis and wanting to go with the same bullshit offense Riley took to USC, I hope he does well. Realisticly, he understands what an offense can do to a defense at that elevation. I think elevation hurts Bohl in Laramie with his offense.

*Edit: I'll bet (if I gave a shit which I don't) he flips it faster than Riley did at USC or the kid who took over Washington.

Walker played better every game, truly. I think Nebraska gave up on him way too soon. It's too bad it was his last season. I think he'd have rounded into a better than average o-line guy with another season of playing the position.
I'm not saying Walker wasn't great, I think he was, and I wish he were here next year.

I just don't know how our entire OL gets worse with another offseason for our young guys, and our 1st team and 3rd team All-Conference players (who hubcap seems to think we need to replace) come back.

They're challenged in finding kids for the o-line. That's a fact. It's why there were three transfers starting this season. Not sure where they would have been without Walker. I believe there were only two guys from the original Hauck HS classes that even made it to junior or senior year status. The rest washed out. It's hard to develop or find starters from among kids who don't stick around or when someone determines that they weren't D1 caliber after all. That's why you have a sophomore and redshirt frosh starting. But that's normal around the conference. Developing the kids is key. Waiting for a savior from the portal is putting a bandaid on it. Bandaids work, but why continue having to need them all the time?

Some of the young kids that are still around have promising pedigrees, but like QB, it's difficult to get them reps and experience that would allow them to be contributors. And that's ok with Hauck, he wants a team dominated by upperclassmen whenever possible.

Oh look, an old friend is back in the portal. Let's see if he passes on us again if offered!

What do you guys think is the over/under for number of transfers UM adds before next fall?

Does someone ‘determine they’re not D1 caliber” or does that same someone just have the inability to MAKE them D1 caliber?

Every coach wants a team dominated by upperclassmen. Yet we get beat by teams with freshman/sophomore QB’s and O-lines without a single senior on them….funny how that works.

Speaking of Portal, I struggled or caught myself typing porthole. Which is more accurate. When performers exit they exit stage left. Port is left so exit hole left is porthole. Just say’n.
Next highway protesters and their signs opposing improving roadways. I hate “End Roadwork” signs.
Finally who keeps stealing the 420 mile marker east of Columbus?

Hauck 1.0 I could have been looking forward to a Griz game tomorrow. Portal talent doesn’t equal success nor does it change some former players disliking special treatment for one player or the fearless leader putting family or personal agenda above team. 1.0 was play clean, protect the rock and dominate 2.0 old mantra preached but not achieved. “If” wasn’t allowed 1.0 and if Johnson could remain healthy 2.0 may have been closer to 1.0.

The waiver-wire gave Rams opportunity to sign a decent journeyman QB a position although having a great defense the Rams could not win playing a incompetent QB. The systemic problem of two NFL teams made Baker available and were not able to win with him.

Griz have systemic issues that the portal will not solve. Turnovers, undisciplined or unforced penalties, lack of developing at the QB position thus having to rely on portal for starting QB, also stopping the run vs disciplined teams.

Defense wins championships, but still require complementary play between offense and defense.

Its both. But there is a specific order in how this works.

The Portal is not a band aid. It is a critical part of recruiting now.

It's the most important part of getting elite players for places like Montana that doesn't develop players. It's unfortunate that Bobby probably doesn't even know how to turn a computer on.
