Poor Towson

Poor Townson University to have Kennedy as their coach, I think I read that they have lost 6 in a row, sounds all too familiar!

This is Kennedy's first year there... Last year they won a total of 8 games, the year before 3 games. He took over a pretty sad program. What'll really be telling is how Towson is in 4 or 5 years...if they don't improve much I'm sure they wont keep Kennedy around.

You can't expect Kennedy to just show up and immediately turn the program around. Once he starts getting some of his recruits in, and has a chance to try to rebuild the program, I bet Towson turns into a pretty respectable program. This is of course assuming he sticks around long enough to do this, and that the AD there gives him enough time to do this.

Let's face it Dexter X, Pat Kennedy was a Train Wreck. You are always defending him. He got ran out of DePaul. He was bad for Montana, he didn't care any more about the players, than he did his shoes. He's a pass-the-buck kind of guy. Train Wreck! He's not going to do any more with Towson, than he did the Griz. He was a page in UM's history that I think most wish to forget.

I don't think Kennedy was here long enough to be considered a train wreck. Had he stuck around for 4 or 5 years, and had the Griz program been in very bad shape after that..then yeah, that would've been a train wreck. Look, I didn't like the way he left Montana..I would've preferred he stuck around for a few years to do what he was brought here to do...Unfortunately he didn't stick around long enough..

No one can be expected to turn around a program that was in sad shape in 2 years. Kennedy did leave this years team with a lot of talented recruits, like Dlouhy, Strait, Martin, Davis & Farr. You could make a good starting lineup with those guys. I really do believe had Kennedy stuck around for a little while longer we would've been pretty happy with the direction this team was going.

As for what you said about him not caring at all about the players, what information do you have to back that up? Obviously the guy has been a good coach in his career. He revived FSU's basketball program, and was so loved by Iona that he's in their hall of fame.. So he has had some success out there. Unfortunately that success didn't follow him here..or if it was following him here, he didn't stick around long enough for it to be very noticible.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see what shape Towson is in in 4 or 5 years with Kennedy as head coach.

Kennedy never had a chance here. From the minute he stepped off the plane he was blasted in the media and in public opinion. Rial Cummings made it his personal mission to run Kennedy out of town because he was mad at Hogan for firing Holst.

Dexter is right Kennedy brought in some good players, and started to rebuild the foundation. I don't know if he would have been successful rebuilding the whole program, and I am happier with Krysco, but judging Kennedy on his 2 years here is not fair.

I have to agree with Dex and Grizbeer on this one too. We will never know how things would have turned out. There is no doubt he recruited and left some very talented players. The current coaching staff is reaping the benefits of this recruiting. The same certainly cannot be said for the "cupboard" Kennedy found when he came here. I should add I am extremely happy with Larry K and do think he is doing a great job and am not lamenting the departure of Coach Kennedy. Given the negative atmosphere he encountered and that continued to exist throughout his stay (thanks in part to Rial Cummings), it is probably better that he didn't stay.

ATTENTION TOWSON OPPONENTS:

I am about to reveal the best type of defense to use on a Kennedy recruit. Are you ready? Here it comes...

A FREAKING TEXTBOOK!

It sends them into complete confusion and sidelines them for months.

Mung - You are a true class act..that's for sure.

How about posting without slamming (direclty or indirectly) the Griz BB players? Do you think you could manage to do that in the basketball forum? I swear you are getting to be about as low class as some of these kids who have started posting on here...

mung- Your post refers to Andrew Strait, Jordan Hasquet, Matt Dlouhy, Matt Martin, Lamarr Farr, Jon Seyfert, Virgil Matthews, Brain Lynch and Kamarr Davis. I realize Kamarr had academic difficulties and subsequently regained his eligibility. The others have never lost eligibility. In fact, I'm sure most of these athletes would put you to shame in terms of IQ. Your posts reveal little intellectual advancement past the 2nd or 3rd grade level. This is not a board where personal attacks against GRIZ athletes are welcome or even remotely appropriate. At the very least, take your childishness over to the "smack" board. Better yet, just take off! Are you sure you are not the poster formerly known as boisegriz?

Kennedy may have gotten some good recruits, In fact he did. I don't know if his so called "Blue-Chipper" Roy Booker exactly panned out as Kennedy said he would, but he did bring some good players to the program. However, as far as his focus on the team and his coaching record, he was most definitely sub-par at best.

His record while here wasn't impressive, that is true. I really do think that 2 years isn't enough time to give a coach though to rebuild a program.

As for Booker, after he came back from his academic troubles he was one of the Griz's leading scorers & rebounders. When they got Booker back and went with the 3 guard offense, the Griz looked like a completely different team. They were 5-2 with Booker starting at the 3. During those 7 games, Booker averaged 12.86pts, 4.86reb a game, including a double/double against ISU (13 points 10reb) & a team high 17 points against ISU in the tournament, and a team high 10 rebounds against ISU at ISU. For a guy who was around 6'0" that's pretty impressive. If you watched the games last year that he played, he was one of the most athletic players the Griz have had in a long time. There aren't many 6'0" guys that can jam it 2 handed on a putback after getting a rebound over top of the giants inside...of course it was called goaltending unfortunately (I think it was in the weber state game..the first game in the Griz's 5 game winning streak with Booker starting), but it was still a pretty impressive display of athleticism :P

Its too bad Booker didn't stick around for this year, but I'm sure he had his reasons for going back to his home state. I hope the Griz play SEMO next year here so we can see how Booker is doing at SEMO. I bet he has a pretty good year for them.

Dexter Andy Hill told me last summer that Booker isn't here because he wouldn't buy into the new Griz coaches program. I don't exactly know what that means, but that is what he said.

Kennedy couldn't turn the Griz into Gonzaga and never will with Towson....point blank the guy was liucky to have Ward, Cassell and Sura at FSU......

Kennedy left Montana, please remember that. The guy never even wanted to be here in the first place. He didn't even unpack the boxes, he knew he was leaving. He only came here as a place of last resort. He left Depaul in a misserable situation and they were glad to see him leave.

You can not argue with 500 wins. He definitely knows the game, that is for sure. He sold the program has the next Gonzaga, which is unrealistic. His schedules were also unrealistic. I was glad to see him and his buddy Hogan leave the program. UM basketball coaches have a good tradition and have moved on and succeeded.
