Well, there were six losses among the ranked teams this weekend, but two of them were to FBS opponents. (Not very good FBS opponents, it must be said.) I’m not sure the SE Louisiana loss to Tulane will actually hurt them, but it gave me a chance to bump the Griz up one ... so I did. (Do the Griz deserve it? Probably not, but they’re my guesses, so why not?) The fact that Northern Iowa came within a FG of Hawaii should help them keep their spot. Still, the fact that they are oh-fer may hurt some, even though those were both FBS losses.
I’m thinking the fact that Furman looked pretty inept at Presbyterian – an early score but then shut out the rest of the way – is going to to hurt them badly. They are sure to drop, but perhaps not quite as far as I have projected.
I'm also figuring that Sam Houston will get hammered badly. Not so much that that lost to a D-II team – because CSU-Pueblo is a very good D-II – but because they lost badly. They were shut out in the first half, and scored two of their three TDs in the final quarter, when Pueblo had probably eased off. In fact, it would not surprise me a lot if they dropped out of the top-25 ... leaving a spot for Liberty, which I think may deserve it.
Maine did not lose badly to Bryant, but when you’re sitting at #23, you really can’t afford any loss. Same thing for Eastern Illinois ... and they may never recover from that 0-and-three start.
