Poll Guesses (Oct 13)

Last week’s guesses were pretty good, but (again) the misses were worse than they oughta be. Twenty out of 25 were on the nose or very close. I also correctly guessed three of the teams that would drop out of the poll. That’s the good news. My bad: I missed on my guesses that Jacksonville State and New Hampshire would also drop out of the poll. And, while I correctly guessed that Samford, Youngstown State, and JMU would move into the top 25, I was close on where only for Samford (I guessed #22 and they came in at #23).

Only three ranked teams lost this weekend, but two of those were to unranked opponents. Since Towson lost to a ranked team, I’m guessing they stay in the top-10 … dropping “the usual” five spots or so. I think Northern Iowa’s loss, at home, to unranked Southern Illinois will cost them a couple more slots. (It would not surprise me if they dropped one or two more than that.) Jacksonville State’s decisive loss, at home, will surely drop them out of the top-25, and I’m guessing that the team that beat them, Tennessee State, will move in.

Looks good to me. I could see us flip flopping with Fordham. I wouldn't be surprised if the Sports Network Poll moves Villanova up even higher to #10 after their commanding win over #3 Towson.

Would not surprise me either. But it may hurt 'Nova that they "took their foot off the gas" in the second half -- they only scored one TD while Towson was scoring 22 points. Without the rain -- it poured late in the game -- Towson might have done even better with their comeback.

Is Coastal Carolina a legit team that is worthy of the #6 rank in the polls or are they just the least sh*tty team in the sub-par Big South Conference resulting in a 6-0 record?

Youngstown St is better than #18 IMO. Not saying your rank is wrong just that they're better than the 3 or 4 teams above them.

Seems to me that Youngstown should be rated 4-6 positions higher, too. I think they have a pretty fine team this year.

Youngstown State has to have the toughest final games of the season holy smokes.... Northern Iowa, NDSU, South Dakota State.

Yup...I believe so...they also get the bison on their turf, maybe a shot at winning too

Hard to say.

Their opponents have a combined 19-19 record. Their Strength of Schedule ranked at #210. For comparison, the Griz SOS is #183, MSU #174, EWU #93, and NDSU #122. They ranked #16 among FCS teams on the Sagarin rankings. Still, their Gridiron Power Index (GPI) was in the top ten before this weekend's game, but that number has not been updated.

So it's a mixed bag. Personally, I'd say they were a bit over-ranked to be in the top-10, but they do seem to deserve to be ranked.

Eastern Illinois at #3??
Well ... they went into the weekend at #5 and two of the teams ahead of them lost. Now, you might question whether they should have been #5 in the last poll, but: What else would you expect the pollsters to do?

Griz drop to #14 in the AGS poll, which has apparently turned into a total east coast/midwest circle jerk.
