Playoff Projection

Win out is very important if we want to go deep into the playoffs, home field really helps.

Although I'm pretty sure a 10-1 Montana would be seeded ahead of a 9-2 UND, especially if Cal Poly continues to win.

Homefield is incredibly crucial, especially if we can get some of these Southern teams to come to Missoula in December. On the flip side it could be worse we could be in the bowl system and stuck in some crappy bowl game because of this issue, at least we always get to decide it on the field at the end of the day. Even if it isn't at our place.

If we beat Eastern and win the conference we deserve a 2 or 3, depending on how everything else goes down maybe even a 1. I'm going to be mad if NDSU is ranked ahead of us if they don't win their conference. I don't care what the schedule looks like you should have to win your conference to get a top ranking.

I think the committee focuses more on who you beat rather than who beat you, and they should. NDSU is deserving of a top seed right now, they have wins over 2 top 10 FCS teams and a 5-2 Big 10 team. There isn't a team in the FCS that has that kind of resume right now.

So how would you feel about that situation if UND wins the conference?

I mean i'd say give them the ranked slot, the over abundance of teams in the Big Sky isn't fair but you can't punish the Fighting Hawks for it at the end of the day. They beat the teams on their schedule.

If they don't win the conference I don't think they deserve it. They will have a chance to put the conference away on the field. SDSU/Youngstown someone will lose tomorrow. MVFC will probably take care of itself but lets say SDSU loses to Youngstown and wins out and its between them and NDSU, I take SDSU because they won head to head.

How so, u.n.d. would be big sky champs with only one FCs loss.

Worse strength of schedule and a worse loss. I DO NOT agree with this but thats how the committee sees it. I love my Griz and want them to get this conference won but in all fairness to UND they didn't pick this schedule, so you can't punish them if they win the conference. It just means the Big Sky has to many teams and the schedules aren't fair.

IF UND slips though and loses and we tie with them for the conference title, then I think we should get the top seed though based on SOS.

What if Cal Poly win's out and finishes 9-2 (8-1 vs FCS and 7-1 in the Big Sky) with wins over ranked SDSU, Montana and a EWU? Should they be seeded and if so where? Above or below Montana should Montana win out? That is a lot of if's, but I am curious to egriz take on this.

Just a hunch. PSU was seeded over SUU last year even though they were outright conference champs.

I've no clue how legit the site is. Interesting, though.

So, everyone can play all the teams they play all the time anyways. How boring.

I would think both would get seeds, likely very close to one another (say, 3/4) on opposite sides of the bracket. Personally in that case I'd seed Poly higher based on the head to head, but historically the committee hasn't seemed to put great value on HTH wins.

NCAA is all about the money UND, and CP bring very few fans and thus very little money, they will be seated lower. Consistency in playoff appearances and money, not fair just the way it works. UM under Read decades ago got poor seating several times. With superior attendance and consistent playoff appearances the seating improved. Straight forward formula, just takes time and money.

No more regionalization. If he/she's going to be a "bracketologist" I would suggest he pay attention to announcements about playoff formation.

Incorrect. They don't have to follow the old bracket guidelines, but nothing says they can't regionalize the matchups.

Not true. If that were the case PSU would never have gotten a seed.

In this scenario, Montana would be seeded ahead of Poly most likely. Not saying it is right or wrong.
