Playoff Concerns

Too much dribbling and not enough passing lately. We need more squared-up shots and fewer fade-aways. We have been exposed for weak post defending and offensive rebounding. We can also fix all those things.

and Manual is shooting shit for percentage.

You realize that even after a couple off nights that Manuel shot 47% overall and 43% from 3 in conference play so if you call that "shit'......

That's exactly what happened vs SUU last night once they got up 15. It was like they collectively thought "Hey we're up 15, let's all practice our Durant fadeaway". After looking so sharp the first 15 or so minutes I had an oh oh feeling after they kept it up going into halftime.

I saw that, I was thinking (first half) we beat these guys by 15 easy and then by the half thought ...impure thoughts.

I would like to see the following starting five:

Anderson
Samuelson
Pridgett
Falls
Carter-Hollinger

...with Owens, Egun, Vazquez and Manuel in the rotation.

I think this lineup would address many of our current issues.
Samuelson and Anderson are each foul prone, with Big Sky officiating. Hell, the NCAA tournament refs may be an advantage for the GRIZ.

Hey, I like this idea! Seems to me it would give us more heft at the basket; puts our top player in a position to run the team; and puts Manuel in the Sixth-Man position, a la Andre Iguodala. He might be much better coming off the bench, especially given his current shooting slump. Why not try it?

A disadvantage: That leaves us only one big on the bench, Kyle Owens, when Anderson especially is foul-prone. This is where we might have used Selcuk.

Could it be that these weaknesses in our team showed up later, before it was necessary to contemplate such a move? You couldn't have argued with being at the top of the conference almost the entire year.

Now? Different equation.

A few tough loses to end the season for the Griz. Close games for the most part (N. Colorado sort of became a blowout). Not surprised a young Griz team that won lots of close ones earlier in conference lost some late.

A few of those "there's a reason they call the game "basket"ball" moments. NC's guard hits a few prayers and SUU's "Speedo Guy" a couple of his own. Manuel has a tough weekend. Pridgett does it all but struggles at times in each game. Big guys can't guard power inside very well which leads to easy scores and/or foul problems.

...and CItay thinks Decuire should change the starting lineup?

Actually, that was my idea, and citay was wise enough to agree. :)

We are not defending the post well enough right now, nor are we getting enough offensive rebounds. I think having both Anderson and Samuelson in the lineup would help with both of those issues.

And Manuel has been struggling with his shot lately, has turned the ball over too much, and his shot selection has been questionable. I think coming in off the bench may take a little pressure off of him and help him find his stroke.

There have been several times this season when I've almost written off Kendal. But every time I come close, he makes a huge basket and proves my doubts wrong. So I'm sticking with him, but maybe a slightly different role would be helpful. Also, the emergence of Eddy Egun has helped me get over the mental hurdle of having Kendal come off the bench.

But I won't second-guess coach. He sees these guys every day in practice. He knows best. :thumb:
