Playoff Committee Poll

Yes. I saw a breakdown and couldn't believe it. I crunched the numbers myself and it is true. 5 conference games into the conference schedule and the cats have scored 45.6 ppg and have allowed 10.2 ppg. The Griz have scored 39.6 ppg and have allowed 25.8 ppg. The total point differential between the two in conference games favors the cats by almost 100 points. The offense in games against their two common opponents favors the cats in points per game (41 ppg for the cats vs 35 ppg for the Griz). The defense in those games is even more lopsided toward the cats. I was too lazy to look at when starters were pulled in those games though. The cats have almost certainly left their offensive starters in longer than the Griz due to early season struggles with the QB and offensive line. I caught the end of their last game and their starters were in when they were up 40+ points in the 4th. This will definitely skew the stats.
Didn't the bubs lose 194-1 to Oregon?

I mean, if we're going to consider that game for SOS, don't they have to be consistent and consider it for *point differential as well?

*really no one gives a shit because it's point differential and not wins and loses, but just for the sake of argument

I can’t find the initial FCS playoff committee rankings prior to 2023 but the Cats were ahead of the Griz in 2023 and 2024. It would be interesting to see how many years in a row now the Cats have been ranked higher in the initial playoff committee poll.
Do you know when the playoff committee started doing rankings?

I get it and I am right there with you. I do think throwing nonconference games out when trying to compare the two is probably the best way to go about it. It isn’t apples to apples and it does not paint the Griz in a particularly favorable light…but I won’t bury my head in the sand and not acknowledge how good the cats are. They are a completely different team from where they started the season. I still think the Griz blow them out as has been past practice in this game.

There are only 4 to 5 teams that are playoff worthy. The rest just suck.
Pretty close..these are the only legit title contenders imo.

I would guess, ndsu, montana, montana state fore sure.. maybe sdsu with a healthy chase mason, and if u.n.d. is playing it's best ball I would give them a fighting chance...other than that it's pretty much dog crap..

In conference games, MSU has had its offensive starters in on their final drive only once, that was against Cal Poly. UM has had its offensive starters in on their final drive in all of their games except vs. Weber State.

This thread is beyond asinine at this point.
Maybe, but some people here are holding to a false belief that UM has been pulling its offensive starters earlier than MSU so that is why the scoring differentials are so largely in MSU's favor. A lie repeated and repeated doesn't just magically become truth.

And my point, why should you even care. Sound like a bunch of bickering old women.

Haha fair. I guess my only reply to that is the week goes by too slowly and I want football to happen. Boards are one way to help pass the time and I don't mind researching arguments.

I'm glad it is this way, if it were reversed and the Griz AD was on the committee and cats were below them with these same records it would be a shit show of crying cat fans.
The shit pond would flood from the tears.
This way just let it work its self out on the field and focus on EWU.

Agree the cats are good. Agree with the methodology as you describe. Disagree with any bub who throws out the result of the Oregon game (or the sdsu game for that matter) but uses it for SOS conversations.

Any cat fan who throws those two games out are morons. The entire season is a team’s body of work. Losing the South Dakota State game looks really bad right now. They are not a good team - even with their starting QB.

Fair, but it is too bad things get so far out into the weeds. The amount of worthy exchange is dismal.

100% untrue. MSU had Adam Jones taking reps up 55-0 against UNC, less than 9 minutes left in the game. The starting QB was in up 41-0.

Montana starters played a little over 1/2 the game against Indiana State (Jake Jensen took over at QB with 6:30 left in the 3rd). 2's and 3's were rotating in by mid-2nd quarter against Weber.

In fact, in many of the games it's the early rotation of subs that has allowed some teams to claw back into the game (somewhat)...one of my primary complaints with Bobby...(maybe my ONLY complaint with Bobby).
