Players on the rise

Love this thread! Nice to wade through the "sky is falling" crowd and read what true football fans think. I loved the way Davis stepped in at DT. And agree with HookedonGriz, Yamen Sanders is the real deal.

I saw lots of things to be excited about against Cal/Poly.

I assume you're talking about me. I'm a true football fan. You don't have to be a homer to be a true Griz fan. I give credit when it is due, and also point out the negative when it is due.

As for Roberts, why isn't he starting at WR? Are you telling that he is not one of our best 5 receivers? If so, I ain't buyin;. This guy has the best hands on the team, and may be the best overall athlete on the team. He should be starting for sure.

I was not in fact speaking of anyone in particular. I think the reason Roberts does not start is that he has Henderson and Jones in the positions ahead of him. Stitt likes certain types of receivers in certain positions, I think he talked about it at the start of the year. Classic WR on the outside, a little quick guy for the fly sweep - short yardage stuff (Naccarato/Lyons) and a convert TE type who can cause match up problems with LBs and Safeties like Carlson/Horner.

Your excessive narcissism is already well-documented on this board. You needn't continue to foster it further.

Even if Roberts is one of the 5 best receivers, that doesn't mean he'd be starting--because only 4 receivers start. What is your problem with numbers and stats. I don't recall ever seeing you get a football stat/number correct.

Look I'm not meaning to knock Roberts bc he's obviously a tremendous talent but you're wrong here.

Best hands? Jamaal Jones
Best overall athlete? Jones or Henderson...
Best jumper? Probably Roberts based on what we've seen

Being a "starter" in this offense only matters for Jones and Henderson our Z and X wide receivers, the rest rotate so much it's almost a meaningless title. Roberts is probably the 3rd best guy on the team overall, I'd say. But he shouldn't be starting over Jones or Hendu. Maybe starting on the inside... that could work...

Wrong once again again, Wally. Roberts is one of the best all-around athletes to come out of Montana in many years. So, Jones or Henderson are better athletes? Please! Were they drafted out of high school by Major League Baseball? Were they All-State basketball players in high school? Were they good enough to get a college scholarship in baseball, football, and basketball? I think we know the answer.

And, by the way, Roberts does have the best hands of any of the receivers. I was told so by a current Griz assistant coach. I predict he will be starting soon, as soon as he learns better route-running in this offense.

Your love fest with our resident jock chaser has been duly-noted. Neither of you know jack sh*t about what you are talking about. GAA big shot doesn't mean crapola, my short peckered friend.

So, you fill a WR position with a clearly inferior receiver just to run the fly sweep once every two games? All of this fly sweep hype is so much Bullsh*t. Ohio State ran it several times tonight versus Virginia Tech.... they just didn't call it the fly sweep. Naccarato has not even run it this season. Jones is the only receiver to run it, for a loss of yards. Yeah, I know Naccarato caught ten passes last week, but they are the dunk type which gain little yardage. Roberts is a threat to make a long gain every time he touches the ball. I don't care which slot he fills, he is good enough that Stitt should find a spot for him. I don't like Smurf RBs or Smurf WRs.

Sooooo, you don't think he should currently be starting?

I would argue....and not many would agree that Brady is on the rise. Look, it's a new offense - and he's only played 2 games in it. He's going to continue to improve. We know, for now that Stitt wont sit him, and potentially destroy his confidence. He's just going to get better. And how good would those numbers had been last week if 5-8 of the dropped balls were actually caught?

I agree with your choices Brint! What I would like to see line up at Reciever is Jones, Hendu, Roberts, Carlson and Horner. All over 6 ft tall. This would help Gus's over throws. I didn't see enough Roberts or Horner against' Cal Poly, I wonder why? Jamaal Wilson is an Athlete!

I didn't say he SHOULD play a small receiver in one of the slots I am saying that is what the coach said he likes to do. I was trying to explain to you why Roberts doesn't start not debate whether or not he should start. Personally I would like to see them run some set-ups with Jones and Carlson in the slots and Hendu and Roberts on the outsides.

The fact is Jones, Robert, Horner, and Carlson are not running the quick WR screens with explosive speed after the catch like Henderson, Naccarato, and Lyons can - that's the mix and why you need those quicker guys out there too.

Seems to me, that with these five in at the same time, they could all just run straight up the field and no team could cover them because of their height. I know there is more to it then this...This is the package I would love to line up occasionally though.
