Player Rep's Cal Poly Game Analysis

Status
Not open for further replies.
I skimmed and "It's not all about winning" jumped out at me. As for all the rest if it... let me summarize.

"I really really hoped that the griz were going to be an excellent team this year, but deep down I knew we probably had some serious issues (with coaching, O Line, tough schedule, over rated defense, etc) that we probably weren't going to overcome. That's why I never predicted what our record was going to be."

We were down 27-14 at the end of the 3rd with the last cp score coming at the 8 second mark. At Half we were tied and had 20 more yards of offense. Some really noticeable things include some very untimely penalties putting us in 1st and long. Pretty bad play calling especially on 3rd down. JJ seems to be unable to go through his progressions either because he doesn't have time or he gets locked on to receivers. Losing Van Akeran(sp) was huge...Straham to slow. Roughing the passer on Wagenmann was huge. Not saying we could have won or cal poly wasn't the better team but we didn't get trucked like some indictate.
The thing that really seems obvious is this team needs to learn to play 4 quarters. Montana out scores it's opponents in each of the 1st 3 quarters but gets whacked in the 4th. The other series I thought cost us is in the 3rd qtr we stopped them on 4th down on their 45 and go 3 and out to punt it away. This offense has no sense of getting down and dirty and going for the throat. Seems to always be a work in progress. No doubt cal poly Won this game but I wouldn't call this loss the end of the season. Once we get to more conventional schemes our chances will get better. I still think Montana is a legitimate threat each and every week end.

With that said I think state has a chance to win this weekend. They are a lot better on offense and will have a pretty good look at cal poly watching Montana's game.

Go Griz!

Ha, ha. Can't believe how gullible and stupid some posters in this thread are. Chuckled when the thread moved to Monte and his long post, which someone had put in egriz previously. In case anyone cares about what my actual analysis was after the CP game. From Brint's thread.

It doesn't surprise me that UM lost this game. I have been concerned about the game all along. Even after the good first half by UM, by both O and D, it doesn't surprise me that CP won the game. But it does surprise me that both the O and D faltered so badly in the second half. I thought the O would continue to perform well or fairly well, and that the D, while still giving up yards to CP, would improve in certain areas. That was a bad half. Don't know what went wrong in that half.

Their qb, who is very good, absolutely killed us. Good thing he isn't a good passer. I thought we'd do better against him in the second half.

CP is a very good offensive team, and their defense was better than I expected. 13 - 18 in 3d down conversions. That is unbelievable good. Their secondary covered very well and made many very good plays. Note that many of our completions, especially in the first half, were great catches by our receivers.

JJ was very good yesterday, as well the receivers. However, UM needed more from the offensive, in both halves, to win this game. UM should have had a lead in the first half. Once CP moved ahead and UM had to pass, it became harder for UM to complete passes, as CP adjusted its D.

As others have said, significant credit needs to be given to CP. They played very well. They were fired up the whole game. They completely outplayed UM in the second half. Hope their qb is okay. Would like to see how the Cats handle him next weekend.

While Strahm seemed to play well, it didn't help having Van Ackeren out. He was playing well. He had 7 tackles (all solo) in less than a half. The performance of the D in the second half was surprising and disappointing. I thought they would do better.

As others have said, the team needs to regroup, and get ready to win, and win the next game. I think they will, but SS is no pushover. UM cannot be down coming into next Saturday, or they will not get a win. Need to be ready, focused and sharp. UM can still control its destiny.

UM needs to beat SS, as well as SU. I'm less worried about the EWU and MSU games. While very good teams and very tough games, I think UM will be fully up and prepared for those games, assuming the season hasn't crumbled. Those games worry me less than CP did, assuming Adams is still not back at full speed.

There is little margin for error now. Dropping the game to CP is a setback, but not necessarily the end of the world. All of the remaining games are tough. We'll see what the team is made of. We'll see what the coaches can do to get the team focused and prepared, and what adjustments can be made. I am still hopeful, but, as some of you have noticed, I have not made any predictions on the season's record--as I haven't been able to figure out how good the team is and how much they will be able to improve from week to week.

It will interesting to see if the team can re-group and come back strong. This is what I like about sport. It's not all about winning. It's also about overcoming losses and adversity, and responding. The Griz have usually been very good at doing this in the past several decades. They've been overcoming adversity all season this fall (5 starters, and really 6 with Thiebes, out on the offense, plus both kickers recently). Hopefully, they can rally. I know I'm with them, and it looks like many others on egriz are too. Go get em, and Go Griz!

Josh Dennard: "All of our goals are still there. Our Big Sky goal is still there. We don't have to panic. This a a loss and we're going to learn from it." Missoulian article today.

Also, some nice posts, qwerty15.

I stopped at the bolded...no one does

BINGO!!!

We led that game 14-7 and got ourscored 27-7 after that. We got trucked. But I agree it's not the end of the season. We'll beat Suck State and SUU, and need to beat either EWU or MSU and we'll be fine.

Let me try to lay it out for you Rob, not that it will make a dent.

You “outsiders” like to come here and mess with the homer Griz fans. Cool, I get it. In the same fashion, I like to mess with you guys.

You guys can make fun of Griz fans for “group think”, or “homerism” or “maroon colored glasses” or whatever played out cliché you can come up with. But the second someone comes at you guys, then you get defensive. Ever heard the glass house analogy my man?

It’s like me making fun of you guys for spending your Saturday nights on e-griz. I think is pitiful, but aren’t I entitled to my opinions same as you? Think about it.

The irony is that you guys are allowed to operate with impunity on here, and the minute somebody brings it back at you, the thread gets locked down.

Perhaps it is you who should do the thanking………….

Post of the year material right here... 8-)

What is a growler dude? please enlighten us

Yeah, right. That is a good one.

Serious question(s)-

How many people witnessed the fateful night that Alpha chased the 'Pickle' out the back door of the Mo Club? And how do we know that it was indeed, said Pickle? And how do we know that the 'Picker' video is indeed, Pickle, and not a cucumber? And how did he survive so long on MB, only to voluntarily purge himself last month? And what happened to Dr. Phil? And what the hell is an Oxford comma, anyway?

Oh yeah, one more thing- what does my post have to do with Griz Football and the FCS?

Seriously folks, inquiring minds want to know.

This seems what a message board outbreak of Ebola would look like. At this point, screw the borders...shut down eGriz for 21 days.

While you knuckleheads continue your private circle jerk, I just had dinner with an ex-Griz assistant coach who now coaches in FBS. Let me know when you want to discuss Griz football, what is wrong with the current direction of the program, and how to fix it. Take some Cialis and you won't have premature ejaculation.

My world was rocked. He mentioned “growler” as the biggest idiot poster he’s ever seen. At first I thought that clearly he’s been hit in the head too often. I run circles around almost all of you morons. As we kept talking he mentioned how growler (me) would always cite made-up info and bad opinions. How he would threaten people that disagreed with him. Straight to my face he told me that growler is the kind of griz fan scum who ruin the message boards. He looked me in the eye and admitted that he knew I was growler. The pencil-dick then left me with the tab, said I could shove it up my arse and walked out leaving me to think about the error of my ways.
