Player not utilized

One player that wasn't utilized nearly enough was Dominique Bobo. I know he quit the team and all, but I say, if you have a guy named Dominique Bobo, you give him a full scholly and play him! Jesus, Mick, is it really that difficult? It's a coaching problem, I tell you, a coaching problem.

I liked what '95 said on Walcott, not by the coaches fault, playcalling fault, or anything but a nagging injury that he kept re-aggravating and then eventually having to have surgery and end his season. Hope he's back at full strength soon.

The comments on Wilson as a runner... I've heard Green, Gragg, and Delaney all say Jamal isn't the guy you want running the ball yet. There's plans to work on it over the off-season but this guy came in to block, that's his prime objective and desire. I bet he does want the ball a bit though, who wouldn't. I just don't think he was under utilized b/c he is what the coaches wanted. I saw three goal-line carries of his in fall camp, none scored TDs. Can't just fault him, can look at O-line issues, D-line/LB strength, etc but he was given some looks in practice and I never saw it happen. However I only saw a handful of practices so maybe I missed a bunch where he was getting in the endzone.

Another player I'd throw out there would be Kevin Berland. He had a great fall camp and has been showing great progress, ran with the 1s for a while too, but then just nothing come the season. I get the whole depth thing and the guys in front of him, just wish he had more chances out there.

Additionally Rominger and Whitted. Wish we could have seen more from those two at safety and not just on special teams.

Haynes had a nice last game against CC...set himself up for next year. Answer to the question though is JJ. Even with this "pro style offense", there could be some called QB draws, option plays, etc. The game this was most evident in was the Cal Poly game. MD and the tri-offensive coordinators will need to go to the drawing board.

We need a big physical possession receiver that can move the sticks for us. Matt Miller at BSU is such an asset because he is almost an automatic first down when one is needed. He also gets out and really sets things up for other receivers and backs with his blocking. I'd like to see us utilize Saylor, Burks, or one of our larger receivers in a similar role, not that any of them are even close to the caliber of Miller. Bleskin was sure effective in that role at MSU. JJ would be very effective in the 5-12 yd pitch and catch if he has a reliable target who can muscle in the ball.

The standout talent not utilized enough was by far PlayerRep. He would have been the best tackler on the team and just imagine how many forced fumbles he would have created. There is no chance opposing D's score any TD's with him on the field.

How the heck did Delaney burn his redshirt and eligibility so quick. Just imagine PR winning the Buck Buchanan and the Griz D playing shut down Bizon ball all the way to Frisco baby. Was he hurt or something or did Delaney have a grudge with him for spending so much time on here...

How was JJ under utilized? Other than the running factor...

That alone is a pretty big factor.

How about JJ along with the entire receiving team, especially the tight ends, by not running shorter routes with a quicker passing attack then just bombing it away or running play action so much. This could have helped the sometimes struggling O-line protect the QB better instead of leaving JJ running for his life most of the time.

Also, I understand the beast of a fullback and tight ends may specialize in blocking but get them the damn ball every now and again and a couple quick slant passes wouldn't hurt either.

Glad you posted that for me. I feel that way too. :thumb:

Harper and Clay Pierson had a combined nine TD's. I'd say that's pretty damn good for the TE's. Jamal Wilson dropped all but one pass that was thrown to him this season. I just think folks are gonna have to accept Jamal is a one-dimensional fullback. He's a true BLOCKING back. He's damn good at it too. He's a beast, but that's what he does and more importantly, what he WANTS TO DO. Period. Gavin Hagfors is a very good pass catcher.

I am going to say Van Ackeren. He was a drop down player that came in with a lot of hype. He was recruited as a safety allegedly. He then was moved to LB in fall camp. Given the defensive struggles, I just think this kid should have seen more PT somewhere. Disappointing.

Van Ackeren was the ST's Player of the Year. He played a lot actually. Missed two games due to injury also.

Yes, but was he under utilized? ST is great but he could have helped more IMO.

CV, I'm not sure how he could be under utilized defensively. He is a LB now, not a safety and He backed up Brock Coyle. There was no reason to take Coyle out of games honestly. The guy could play every snap for eight quarters and never get tired.

I agree with you. But maybe it's the "is he one of the 11 best defenders" on the team argument? Yes IMO. Put him in as a "in the box" safety if you had to. You gotta find a way to get him on the field more. It's just a discussion point.
