Player Development in UM Football

UM football struggles to consistently develop players recruited to the program. All four of the starting quarterbacks in this year's semifinal games were at their schools for at least four years, a feat that has not happened at UM for over a decade. A similar trend surfaces when you look at the defensive and offensive lines, linebackers, and defensive backs.

Funny. Very reliable sources tell me the Griz practice several times a week, go through strength and conditioning, etc.

You can rag on a lot of different positions related to Griz Football, but not Linebacker. This year they were ok, but every other year they've been great. Look no further than our new transfer LB we got yesterday. Kids a baller

He might be. But Kaho was suppose to be baller too and we know how that worked out. All new players struggle in our defense. I am guessing he will be no different.

This trend is likely not going to continue in the NIL world...

Except he wasn't. Kaho had 37 total tackles .5 sacks 0 int 0 fumbles 0 everything else before coming to the griz. He was a backup. Id say this is much different.

Kaho, for me, will just be a reminder to never really take the spring game seriously lol

I honestly thought he was going to be a wrecking ball for us, the way he looked in April.

I don't want to say he was "invisible" this season, but often times it was difficult to even notice he was out there.

I've been fooled by the spring game going on several years now... players who I thought ready and were going to step up and deliver haven't come in and done that the next fall. Maybe I should quit going to the spring game and setting myself up for disappointment :)

Pulling Kaho's SDSU stats:

2023: 23 total tackles / 1 TFL / 0.5 sacks / 5 starts
2022: 11 total tackles / 1 TFL / 0 sacks / 0 starts
2021: 4 total tackles / 1 TFL / 0 sacks / 1 start

At Montana he had 63 total tackles (but as pointed out just 15 solo), 5 TFLs, 1 sack.

In his career he is not credited with any forced fumbles or forced interceptions.

Seems to me the guy was a rotational / backup dude at SDSU and provided a similar level of output here. To slightly modify a Dennis Green quote, "he was what we thought he was" - a rotational backup with minimal on field impact.

Why was he a starter at UM then? Were there no players developed that could have started in-front of him? You all are proving my point.

Arguing that this staff can't develop linebackers is fucking insane. You're losing the plot on your agenda letting those thoughts leave your head.

For sure IC - I wasn't debating you on that, we've had discussions on here and on our pod that this team currently has a problem developing talent in many departments.

Saying Kaho was supposed to be a baller though - there was no statistical evidence he was before though, that's all.
