of the players in the pipeline--i.e., redshirts or high school
signees--i figure three are near locks to start: mcgillis, selvig and taylor. plus, tinkle indicated when he signed stockton that he might contribute immediately. and we'll still have qvale, rundles, sharp, elgin-taylor, staudacher, graves. good things ahead for grizzly basketball.

oh, wait. there's still this year.

since i've never seen selvig play, he remains a huge--or should i say, tall--mystery. he came out of high school with the only three-star rating a big man has ever had at montana, better than either bobby howard or brian qvale, but obviously he's not as ready as either of them. i guess the question is, when does he finally grow into his body--next year? year after? never? beats me. but it hardly seems a stretch to think a 3-star, seven-footer in the big sky conference with a red-shirt year under his belt wouldn't be a candidate to start.

i'm not so impressed with elgin-taylor.......can't even make free throws

So, why pick on Elgin-Taylor for poor freethrow shooting. Sure he shoots 44.4% from the line, but Sharp is only 50%, and Qvale only 55.6%. Staudacher is the only one CityGriz mentioned that is playing this year with a good freethrow shooting percentage but that is based only on 2 freethrows. Not good to have the players that shoot poorly to be at the freethrow line so often.

If this is the future of Griz BB next year, Griz could be losing some games next year because of poor freethrow shooting.

CET is a good guard, so far i think he has really performed well besides his troubles with free throw shooting, i believe will be a valuable resource to the grizzly offense. Im not completely sold on Staudacher yet, i mean sure he has the physique of achillies but did anyone see how bad Robinson from CSF lit his a$$ up? Offensively im sure he is a good shooter but not as reliable as the other players on the team. Qvale is an amazing player for a freshman and next year paired with Hasquet and some off season size and game knowledge should be a formidable opponent. Don't forget Mike Taylor who will be a solid 2 for us next year and should hopefully bring some offense. Hopefully Hurley's sister can swap him places and get some minutes...

maybe because he is a point guard, and point guards should have more touch from the line than a center, but yes those guys don't shoot freethrows well either.

I saw him play in the Semi's last year against Browning. He was probably the third best player on the court behind two kids from Browning. I wish I could remember their names but one of them just tore Selvig up in the paint a few times and he was at least four or five inches shorter. Not that I am ripping on Selvig, but I though those native boys were outstanding!
