The point is distractions. Preparing yourself for competition is huge. This spectacle today only detracts from that preparedness.
What are we going to wear? Where are we supposed to be before kick-off? What shirts are we going to wear with the coaching staff that get approved?
If you want a fashion show or political statement do it somewhere else.
If this is what competes with our performance then I say it again....prepare for mediocrity.
good point, probably why they don't tell teams they are playing in the Super Bowl or bcs chipper until after the game. We just won a dog fight. The team didn't quit. We had some key players see little or no time and the team found away to get it done. Sometimes good teams find a way to win. Do we need to make some adjustments with play calling absolutely, but lets stop with the sky is falling bs and it is all breast cancer's fault. We are 6-1!

No kidding. Imagine if the Griz hadn't come back and beaten Cal Poly yesterday. We'd probably see for-sale signs in the yards of every one of those cancer survivors this morning. Maybe some of these fair weather fruitcakes get together and have a pink ribbon bonfire near the riverbowl. No, better yet, let's raise awareness of Giant Crybaby Syndrome by wearing orange. Which Grizzly would you like to escort you into the stadium, Rcscott?

What a bunch of babies some posters are in this thread. Get over the fact that pregame didn't get YOU pumped up. If it takes pregame to get you pumped up for the game, you probably shouldn't even be at the game.

Ummm teams know if they're going to be in the super bowl. They know what game they're going into and what happens if they win/lose. There's just a little hype. Heck, even the bcs is putting in their playoff.

To tell you the truth pre-game has never done much to pump me up before a game except the players running out onto the field right before the game(also flyovers). I usually am pumped enough by game time after anticipating the game all week.

You seem to be missing the point "Pastor" This is just one big distraction and I'll put my 20 years of coaching high school on the line and say that I've seen it happen alot. Let them play football and save the tear jerks for PBS or 60 minutes. It's out of hand.
I repeat "I'm AWARE of breast cancer and others as well."

You appear not to be aware that the program has been expanded to cancer awareness, not just breast cancer awareness. It looks like the program needs to be continued, as some aren't aware it's about more than just breast cancer.

Pastor Ron, tell Jake Weezy, NAUChick, and the rest of the gang I said hey, then please pray for all of us fair weather fruitcakes.

... I guess I don't see the connection with football and breast cancer, or any kind of cancer for that matter. I don't see the need for the NFL, NCAA, ESPN, Washington State High School Association, etc. to be presumptuous enough to take it upon themselves to remind me of crappy stuff every single second of every single day that I am watching football in the month of October. It just doesn't make sense. Other than to Nike's sales & advertising department maybe.

I just want to go back to watching football as just football, and thinking about cancer/grieving about cancer/supporting cancer prevention & research on my own time and terms.
One of many:
Headline: Breast cancer awareness shouldn’t be this profitable

… For every $100 in pink NFL gear sold, $50 goes to the retailer, $37.50 goes to the manufacturer and the NFL takes $1.25. This leaves $11.25 for the American Cancer Society, but the buck doesn’t stop there.

Of that original $100, only $8.01 goes toward actual cancer research. The rest goes to the American Cancer Society’s other expenses.
… Charity Watch claims that the American Cancer Society CEO John R. Seffrin received $2.4 million in compensation in the 2009-2010 fiscal year.

Cancer is not a business.* If you would like to help people in need instead of pouring money into greedy pockets, do your homework and find out where your money is actually going. The Charity Navigator website will give you a breakdown of how a charity allocates its funds.
* Insert comment: Well, actually, it is, as this article points out.

I noticed that nobody on the Poly sideline players or coaches were wearing any pink

Smart of them

They out hit us for most of the game

My old coaches always told us to "stay away from the pink..it will make your legs weak"

I thought the pink wasn't that bad. We didn't wear pink uniforms, FFS, so it could definitely have been worse.

That movie to start the game was a huge buzzkill, though.

I agree with Bob even if he is a crotchety old bastard. Donate the money directly to cancer research rather than lining the pockets of retailers and marketers. On a side note, I would like to see the team walk down through the fans in different sections like they did, move it each game. Some schools have them walk across campus and it's a huge deal.

Can I get Jordan Tripp to fetch me a Pizza Hut Supreme before he takes the field? ;)

Team Up Montana doesn't fund cancer research. You can donate directly or you can buy apparel. It's a local organization and this is what it does.

"Team Up Montana has helped over 300 patients pay for life-saving cancer treatment, screening exams and educational programs. The need for financial support for Montana’s cancer patients grows each year. And, Team Up Montana is with them every step of the way."

Wow! That pink stuff sure put a damper on Oregon, didn't it? I've never seen them play so badly!!! Talk about pink...now THOSE unis and helmets were pink!!!
