I wouldn't hire em on a dare. He ran the Montana program into the ground inside of one year.
Are you kidding me?!?!?
Robin Pflugrad took the best FCS program in the country over in 2010 and ran it into the ground. The team, prior to his arrival, played in 7 National Championship games inside of 15 years. The Grizzly football program has not been the same since he took the program over. Coach Pflugrad landed here in 2010 and stated that: "The cupboard was bare" what a moron thing to say. This team had Andrew Selle, Chase Reynolds, Jabin Sambrano, CJ Adkins, Dan Moore, Jon Opperud, William Poehls, Alex Verlanic, and Danny Kistler on offense. The defense boasted Trumaine Johnson, Erik Stoll, Jimmy Wilson (who didn't fricken start by the way under Pflugrad!), Caleb Mcsurdy, Jordan Tripp, Brock Coyle, and a young Zach Wageman on it. The team also had Brody McKnight as the kicker and punter, maybe the best special teams player in the conference that year. That team had 9-10 kids that played in the NFL and a couple more that played in the CFL. Coach Pflugrad took over a LOADED team in 2010 and won 6 Div I games with this group and lost to the Bobcats AT HOME! He had no control over the football team while here, the players ran a muck his entire tenure here. His comments to the newspaper following the Jordan Johnson $hit show (beatle headed) cost him his job and spear headed an NCAA investigation that lasted almost two years costing the program 4 scholarships over three years. He landed at Weber St. and guided one of the worst offenses in the country and was fired after ONE YEAR. Why would you want him to lead your football program?

Why would you want Royce Engstrom to lead your university?

Much of this mess was caused by how Royce Engstrom handled it, with Pflugrad and O'Day being scape goats.

I don't remember Pflugrad fumbling the ball on the 1 yard line against the Cats in that game.

Also, did you forget the semi-final appearance we made the following year against Sam Houston?

And an injured Andrew Selle in 2010, etc...

People who dislike Pflugrad, Stitt, etc don't like to let facts get in their way when trying to make an absurd argument. :coffee:

What's creepy about this?

Is following athletes and others on twitter creepy? Announcements of verbals is one thing, but what about other tweets they make about other things?
Uhhh...

He's like 70
She's like 28

Yeah, creepy

I suppose you're jealous of the most interesting man in the world too. LOL.

Seeeeeriously comparing Samson's, or Howell's qualifications to Pflu's? Homers.

qualifications? clearly Pflu has the more extensive and impressive resume. but to disregard samson because of the disparity in resumes would be foolish. what samson did in havre with MSUN is very, very impressive, and should not be overlooked.

Samson peaked at Northern. If he could have moved up, he would have. If he could have made a lateral move, he would/could have but they' overlooked' him. At best, he'd be the #4 pick at Rocky.

A few years back, Youngstown State looked for a HC and got Jim Tressel(Ohio State) followed by Bo Pelini(Nebraska). I'm sure there were plenty of competent contenders' overlooked' in the process, but when when you have a chance at a big fish you take it. Rocky is no YSU and Pflu isn't a Tressel or Pelini, but given the field of candidates, there is only one WAY ABOVE the others.

I don't remember saying that I wanted Royce Engstrom to lead the University. Coach Pflugrad is not a very good football coach that's my opinion.

ZOMG the Griz had a losing season! BURN THIS FUCKER TO THE GROUND!

Seriously, you are the reason people hate Griz fans. God forbid there's a losing season, a mutiny is sure to break out.

It wasn't even a losing season. The playoff streak was broken and we lost to the cats. Had a 7-5 record if I remember right.

7-4 actually; 5-3 in conference. Our losing season was under Delaney in 2012; 5-6

Seriously, you don't know me at all. When I think of Robin Pflugrad the words "great football coach" do not come to mind. The Grizzly football program was "burned to the ground" during his tenure at UM. If you don't think he had ANY fault in that you are crazy. You are the reason people think Griz fans are idiots.

18-7 with a semi final appearance in his second season. Yup, he sucked. When's the last time we made the FCS semis? Oh yeah, when Robin coached.

What do you think Pflugtad did or didn't do that caused the decline of Griz football? Let's hear your specifics.

Yes, his first season, at 7-4, was the first team in years not to make the playoffs. Many would say the loss of a very good qb, Selle, early in the season significantly impacted that season. He rebounded in the 2d year to take UM to the semifinals. He brought an entertaining offense to UM. I don't care about that, but many fans do.

He supported the quarterback Johnson, many believe that led to his firing, and it was proved by a court of law that he was right on Johnson. Johnson was acquitted by the unanimous vote of 12 jurors, and was not kicked out of school under the school/federal procedure.

No Pflugrad recruit player was kicked out of school under UM's sexual assault policy. All the Missoulian/Florio/Engstrom blabber and smoke turned out to be untrue, and unable to stand up to scrutiny.

Yes, a mom paid a few hundred bucks to bail out two players, at the request of a grandpa in CA (and was repaid a week later), and a local law firm represented the 2 guys in a contingency fee case, or pro bono ($2,000 worth) as it had done for multiple other students, occurred during Pflugrad's time. Not a big deal in my view.

The firing of Pflugrad/O'Day is what led to the decline of UM football, combined with the lack of support of Engstrom (as well as his wanting to blame others and deflect attention from himself). Engstrom allowed the sexual assault bad publicity to get out of control, and even fanned the flames. Engstrom didn't properly defend against the ncaa and apparently offered up the loss of scholarships. Engstrom allowed the dean to run amuck. Engstrom buddied up to Williams, and allowed him to run off at the mouth, saying untrue things. I could go on, but won't.

Again, let's here your specifics on what Pflugrad did to ruin Griz football.

Pflu did what old-fashioned coaches do -- he had the integrity to stand by a young man that he knew well. Can't do that in EngstromLand.

Same reason Mike Pressler was fired as the Duke LaCrosse coach: the lynch mob theatrics of the politically correct and vicious Left overcame all of the normative presumptions of innocence. Royce Engstrom was as culpable as Richard Brodhead. Both kept their jobs and got raises while good men of high integrity doing the right thing and wrongly accused were vilified and had their careers and lives ruined.

The "outside study" showed that the athletic department followed every protocol in place at the time with regard to reporting and the handling of reports. The "problem" there was that the Engstrom administration had a poorly conceived and poorly defined set of guidelines. It was then as is widely recognized now, the "Engstrom" approach of leading from behind, with his behind.

Pflu was the first football coach to require mandatory "sex ed" for the athletes to instill in the athletes the risks of being an athlete, and the risks of casual sex in particular when alcohol is involved; indeed some "traditions" had been changed due to what Pflu correctly recognized as encouraging risky behaviors. Pflu had done far more than the Engstrom administration had done -- which was not much of anything, except bend over backwards to protect "culturally sensitive" students from being arrested for committing violent sexual assaults and rape.

On his own initiative, Pflu was far more proactive on these matters than Royce Engstrom ever was.

Pflu was a scapegoat pure and simple for a beleaguered and cowardly president trying to assert his "PC" credentials to a small but influential political segment of his campus community. It was a lynch mob, pure and simple, with PhDs.

Rob Pflugrad was a good coach and brought "fun" football back for the Griz. He was a decent man and I liked him very well. He did not have a mean bone in his body and like 75 mentioned he got the Engstrom screw job and took the fall for Engstrom's failures.

Grizrmoregood, In any event he is long gone and I am sure you are happy so that is all good. Curious? Who do you "like" or "liked" as a Griz coach? Thanks.

I hope he gets the HC at Rocky and most of us will be happy.

Well stated; I've reached out to two close friends that are long-time influential RMC boosters encouraging them to lobby for RP's hire.
