Petek Arrested for Domestic Violence

I find it amusing that some on this site, non-lawyers, choose to argue legal matters with lawyers. Same logic that got someone two weeks in Anaconda, AND got his ass kicked by some woman out the back door of some bar, back in the day. Just gettin' old, I guess. "My mind wanders," a line from "No Country for Old Men."

Recently had officers respond to bar fight. Half of fight was outside bleeding from mouth and nose. Other party fled. Cops took statement of bleeder and his wife. Cops cite the other guy for starting fight and his wife for jumping in. Bar had four camera views of fight. Bleeder was the one who shoulder checked the other guy first. Bleeder threw first punch not once but twice, the second time after other guy had extended his hand to say "all good".

Moral: Lie to the cops and get charged for fight and false statement. Destroy evidence and that will get you zero favors. Did you know that flight can be introduced as evidence of guilt? Apparently neither did Andy.

My two cents: Andy does not have the benefit of video or track record for the "innocence" professed at wedding venue.

Upshot. Sometimes those close to the program hear what they want to hear.

He will get zero benefit of the doubt as he has a deferred sentence from previous "incident." He is also an ex-con - convicted and sentenced for dealing Coke in Western Montana. Dude is going back to prison.

Corporate law and criminal defense are 2 entirely different animals, almost worlds apart. Not sure a career drawing up contracts, advising businesses on tax shelters, real estate transactions etc. gives that person much more insight into the validity of domestic violence charges than a layperson.

Being the troubled and steroid-using son of a now deceased lawyer, doesn't give one much insight into the law either.

I would guess that being a malignant narcissist likely doesn’t give one much insight either.

Actually representing large corporations and their executives who get into trouble, and then overseeing and working with top criminal defense lawyers in one's firm and some of the top defense lawyers in the country, gives huge insight into criminal laws, defense and matters. And any lawyer knows more about criminal laws and defense, than virtually all non-lawyers.

As an example, I worked closely with Ted Wells on an important matter. "Some of Wells' more notable clients include Michael Espy, Senator Robert Torricelli,[2], Scoter Libby and Congressman Floyd Flake.[10] He represented former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer against allegations stemming from his alleged involvement in a prostitution ring.[11] In November 2013, the National Football League hired Wells to prepare a report on a bullying incident with the Miami Dolphins involving Richie Incognito.[13] The report, released on February 14, 2014, made headlines for its finding of "a pattern of harassment".[14 He also represented the NFL in Deflategate. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Wells. I hired Wells and worked closely with him. I later gave him permission, on behalf of my client, to represent Mike Espy. He won that case in a jury trial. I've been hired as an expert in several criminal matters/trials.

Knowing facts of a matter is also very important to understanding a case.

Let's bet $100 on whether the two charges against Petek stick when the matter is resolved.

So you still haven’t answered the question of wether he actually did what he’s been accused of which is far more important then wether the charges will stick or not. Since you were at the wedding buddying up with everyone, did you not ask the most important question of wether he actually did these things or not? Did you not ask if the nosy neighbor was lying or telling the truth when they gave you that vital information that it was her that called the cops? I think everyone would agree that it’s more concerning that he may or may not have abused his wife then wether the charges will “stick”, don’t you agree? Please tell me your not ok with a possible wife abuser walking a scott free.

Jonny Varona and wife are fire fighters in Maui and a neighboring island. They have a surf shop in Lahaina and plan to open an adjacent coffee shop. Laaina Surf. On Front street. Jonny's wife Aina grew up in Maui, and played college basketball. They have 10 year old twins.

I was just in Maui in Feb. I'll be going back next year probably. I looked it on Google maps and didn't find it. I'm totally about going and checking out his place next time. If you can give me the address I'll put it on my list.

I believe it is on Prison, LahAina Surf Shack.

Innocent until proven guilty on this latest incident, but...

One has to plead guilty to get a deferred sentence. Hence, former prisoner Petek, the big, strong, agile pugalist, has been "caught" twice for domestic violence.

My comment has nothing to do with Petek’s legal problems. It’s about you and your lack of a moral compass. You don’t hesitate to bring up personal failings about posters or their family members.

You’re not an honorable man.

I pity you.

The Old "PR" has been drawn out of retirement. Sad to see.

Amazing. I would bet that any lawyer, regardless of his specialty, has forgotten more about criminal law than any of you self styled, opinionated, malignant assholes will ever know. . I don't know Mr. Petek, or any of you on this site. I like it that way. To say, because of his past legal troubles(of which I know nothing about) that he is going to prison, is presumptuous at best. But, what the hell, this IS eGriz, and the bar is set mighty low. Apparently, that is why you persist on this site. Post away! It is obvious that several of you have had a hard-on against PR for a very long time, and are hell bent on continuing your vendetta. Grow-the-fuck-up, and stop struttin' around like some banty rooster with your 'seldom wrong but never in doubt' bullshit.

which two? did they drop one charge?

These 2. from the linked article: "is being charged with partner and family member assault and taking possible evidence with him to prevent law enforcement from viewing the items, according to court documents filed Wednesday."

You should direct your comments to gotgame. I just respond to his attacks on occasion. You need to learn how to read.
