Something is wrong with you if that Griz looking you right in the grill does not scare the hell out of you. Great photo and I bet the picture of the Bobcat guarding his mouse kill is just as scary. :)

That "elk" was actually burned in one of the geysers in the park, I believe. I remember the story just not the specifics. I'm sure somebody does.

MSU Fish and Wildlife Management major?

Leave the poor boy alone; he can't help it if he wasn't taught better.

Actually, they don't think the "elk" in the first picture was killed by the grizzly bear. They figured that it was likely killed by another bison, I mean "elk", in a fight for mating rights... Is it just me, or does that grizzly bear look very small next to the "elk".

Edit: The picture was taken from a plane, and it sounds like the camera man might get in trouble for getting to close and disturbing the bear.

You're correct, This was an amazing year in the park during the bison rut. There were numerous bulls killed because of fights. If you want to see wolves and bears on carcasses, August is great except for the crowds. This photo was taken by Doug Smith the head of the wolf project on one of his wolf spotting missions. He won't get in trouble because flying and looking for wolves is what he does. Fantastic shot!

Doesn't look to me that the bear is bothered at all.

Why would he be bothered, grizzlies are the Chuck Norrises of the animal world and FCS football.
