Penn State sanctions lifted immediately

Hell of a deal. Penn St?

At Montana the NCAA found out the mistake they made on a horrible "over punishment" rape scandal.

What the NCAA did to atone for their mistake was to use the "eating of a hot dog" by a UM player. Free to the public but not to a Griz athelete. And that makes perfectely good NCAA sense.

Some wonder if the NCAA will become a hate word.

So now that Penn State has had its sanctions dropped, does this make Montana the most penalized institution in the NCAA?

There's a guy on the ewu forum that openly speaks of having up to 20 football players at a time over to his house for dinner. Unless he's feeding every single member of the student body (including every athlete on every team both men & women) how is this not considered to be improper benefits given to student athletes?

If he fits the definition of a booster then there's a problem.

He's a ticket holder and according to the info we get from the U of M that meets the definition.

Wow, you weren't joking. And bragging about it on a public forum. Interesting...I hope EWU's administration doesn't self-impose any penalties like UM's did. I would like to see what the NCAA would actually penalize a program for improper booster benefits.

Also, since EWU played with players that received improper benefits (making them now ineligible like Tru and Kemp were deemed), will they have to vacate games and will that affect whether or not they can make the playoffs? Instead of being (2-1) they would be (0-3) right now and would have to almost go undefeated the rest of the season without 20 of their players (presumably better players since a booster was sucking up to them). That would be a huge story for the current #2 to miss the playoffs.

Although it's not hard to get permission for stuff like this. Just sayin'. Not that I don't enjoy watching this place go full retard every now and again.

Apparently ewu compliance office has no problems with it. Not sure how considering the NCAA came down on the U for football players getting special treatment (tailgate hot dogs, not ribs & home made mac-n-cheese like this guy cooked) over normal students or other student athletes. The same ewu booster spoke of having highlight dvds made up to give to players at past dinner gatherings. The guy seems genuine and has a good heart, but it sure seems like there is a double standard in play.

Gaaawwwwd I've managed to find myself seemingly defending the NCAA. :? FWIW the way I understand this convoluted mess is that the NCAA simply doesn't like being surprised. Many things are permissible with advanced notice through the compliance office. I don't know any details on 'hotdog gate' or how it applies to this situation.

A booster having 20 players over for dinner at his house on occasion is not a problem, but it can't be done frequently and it certainly can't be done every several weeks--is my understanding. I think that some people have had a whole positon groups over, like annually, or something like that. It's the frequency that's a problem, not the number of people. Only occasional in-home meals allowed. It looks like UM compliance has put policies in place to limit this, to the point of going over board--based on reading the booster stuff that comes out and then comparing it to the ncaa website and the rules of other universities.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Shaq Hill should be ineligible. It's even on video.

The sanctions were not for hot dogs. They were for coaches and AD personel not knowing what was going on. The pleurethra of hot dog memos since have come from a particular compliance officer covering her hiney. Why she is still here is likley in safe somewhere.
