pay for making universities money

I am interested to see where the Title IX crowd (which is very strong in California) goes with this. I would imagine that the star football or men's basketball player will make considerably more than the best women's basketball / softball / volleyball player.

Not "if" but "When" someone challenges on these grounds.

Seems to me the "movement" is from amateur to professional. Scholarships are not considered "pay," but when a player makes money otherwise, it borders on professional. So, what is college football to be: amateur or professional?

It may not be good for the vast majority of athletes and it certainly would make it so that there is a blurring of the lines between amateur and professionalism in big-time college sports. But now that it is a fact in California, I think it is inevitable. And it could happen quickly, as these articles show.

Change isn't always good but it is inevitable.
Yep. In this case, the good news is ... there's so much money involved in college football (for the haves), we will somehow see something worked out that kinda works.

But here's the thing about change: There are always unintended consequences, usually bad. Those usually take a lot longer to appear, and often take a lot longer to fix.

No way the NCAA survives as we know it if this becomes the standard. Imagine trying to set up a framework of rules for this.

P5 schools may simply become an entirely new entity?

Wait until high school kids get involved...
