I like what people have posted but a friend whose son played for UND said he was “surprised” Bobby hired this guy. He also said he wouldn’t be missed, as well as a couple of other derogatory things. I guess we will see if that is sour grapes or reality. Hoping the new coach is great.

Some kids don't like some coaches. I've spoken to one kid who played for Bobby and said he was mean and a bully and didn't treat them well. I had one guy say the same about Pease. The player also was one who never played and washed out.

Sometimes coaches are coaching hard and pushing trying to get something out of a kid, and the kid just doesn't respond well. Some coaches are much more gentle, but they never push kids hard enough to truly get them to reach their potential (that would be me as a coach, and why I know I am only qualified to be working with very small children to make it fun and teach some basics).

I've also talked to a lot more players that bought in, and say that Bobby's ability to instill discipline and regimen in their lives was a huge life changer for them, and they credit him with a lot of success. I've heard one player talk about Pease as "his guy from day one," and one guy call Pease a father figure to him. I had a coach last year laughingly tell me about how excited one of the kids from one of the southern states was to show up in Bobby's office in a big belt buckle and cowboy hat, to see if he looked like a real Montanan because he had met a cowgirl.

I've had bosses that I will tell you were a huge dick, and other people thrived under them. I've had bosses that other people absolutely despised, and I learned things from them that I still reach out thank them for to this day because they instilled in me hard things that have made me successful in ways I would not have been without their "coaching" on sales teams when I was young.

My point in all of this is that not every coach is for every player, but I've really stopped listening to sour grapes from ex players and ex employees.

Agree 100% with this. There is no doubt that some players won't like him. The people I spoke to about him...he will work them, push them, try to get the best out of them. Some will like that and thrive, others will not. If he can coach the shit out of the line and make them dominate the LOS, I couldn't give 2 shits which of those players are the ones that stay and dominate and which are the ones that transfer out. We will just have to see how the spring unfolds. I would like to have some of the people in Missoula let us know how he is once they meet him...if that's not too much to ask.

Alway told that that there were four quadrants that coaches/bosses live in:
1. Dumb and a Dick
2. Dumb and a nice person
3. Smart and a Dick
4. Smart and a nice person

There is one that is ideal, one that is acceptable, one you can laugh about and one you need to avoid like the plague!

Working in the manufacturing world for nearly the last 20 years where demand is very high, I’ve definitely learned one thing that is generally 99% true. When someone complains about an “A hole” supervisor, it usually says way more about the employees work ethic, or lack there of, then the supervisor.

A percentage break down from my history being a hard worker with a great work ethic.
1. 5%
2. 5%
3. 15%
4. 75%

For me:

Coaches: 15%, 35%, 35%, 15%.

Bosses: 30%, 20%, 35%, 15%.

Noted…PR, can I get an amen? You speak truth about how long it was until someone was a negative Nancy about the line Coach…I have a different standard about coaches… I call it the F bomb factor…we all drop Fbombs, but I always felt that one should not do this in a room full of strangers…Izzo never did this, Wooden never did , Tarkanian didn’t, I actually ate lunch with him , amazing story, but no F bombshells, I hated Georgetown under John Thompson, no F bombs either … but Jim Boeheim , Bobby Knight, f bomb monsters…

I had almost 20 years of #4 with bosses. I kept telling younger people I worked with how lucky they were. "Nice" is tough to define. "Respectful" is how I would define it.

I love Izzo. He gets all over those guys and they take it and respond because they know how much he cares for them. His players love him.

Nice bosses get walked on. Employees will try to get away with everything. Missing more days, taking extra long breaks, and get lazy. You can't be too much of a dick though because people won't stick around. There's a happy medium and if people start lacking or trying to take advantage you have to be a dick.

I prefer empathetic to nice in describing #4. Nice kind of implies walkover, whereas empathetic, to me, means even if you have to be stern you can do it with respect to the subject's dignity.

True, nice isn’t the best term. When I say I had 75% of my bosses be nice, I’d say that’s to me but I’ve certainly seen most of them be hard a s s es to those that deserved it.

I have a friend who works at UND and he said we got arguably their best coach. Said the players were bummed to lose him and that it was blow to the team. He said we got a great one.

Should be interesting when we play them in Grand Forks 9/7.

I'm sure he did....... sdsu friend said the exact thing about the coach they got from und... sure it's coincidence, right?

Well he did say it was “arguable”.

And anything is an upgrade over Germer.

Germer has coached o-line in 4 national championship games, including a win in 2001. Also in 2009, one of the 2 best UM o-lines in modern history. Feel free to name all the better UM o-line coaches since the 95/96 era. And now Germer is an offensive coordinator.

If you believe that, than why did hauck keep him on staff for so long at u. Of Montana and even brought Germer to unlv while he was there?

Hauck clearly thinks differeantly about Germers' abilities than you.

I don’t know. I don’t talk to Hauck. Do you?

BH has a history of being loyal (sometimes excessively) to assistants. They committed to him to come here underpaid. His contract negotiations always involve more money for the assistants.
