Any hopes of improving these stats this weekend?

That's stange; I've always heard that the best way to alleviate a strong passing game by the opponent is to put pressure on their passing attack. But...

Sacks by (conf. games / no# of sacks/ yds):
1. Montana 5g 20 Sacks 126 yds
2. EWU 5g 15/98 yds
MSU 4g 15/74 yds
Sacramento State 5g 15/75 yds
5. North Dakota 5g 13/78 yds
6. UC Davis 5g 12/90 yds
7. NAU 4g 11/70 yds
8. Southern Utah 5g 9/68 yds
Cal Poly 5g 9/39 yds
10. Northern Colo 4g 7/34 yds
PSU 4g 7/49 yds
12. Weber State 5g 6/ 18 yds
13. Idaho State 4g 1/8 yds

Obviously, I am not a coach, but at this point I would offer the team two options.

1) Would you like to light it up with blitzes and hope for the best, or
2) Would you like to play it safe.

Essentially, ask the team about experimenting and letting them see the fruits of their efforts...as long as they don't lose.

I wonder what our next 3 opponent's strategy against us will be?

They’ll probably try to run the ball. :)

You can't go blitz heavy and leave your secondary in a soft shell, which basically assures the QB has a quick strike open target. And if the pass rush is over 2 seconds, lookout because the windows only get more vertical as your shell stretches out. What kid wants to play in that?

Why not go with press coverage? Close the window by putting your corners at the line. Center your eyes with that kids inside earhole and freaking punch him hard in the chest on the inside and disrupt his route. You don't want this kid to be where he's supposed to be when the QB looks for the quick strike. After you disrupt the route, ride his hip and defend the inside. Sure there's some risk, but what Gregorak has his kids doing now is just keeping the play in front of them and hoping to God the pass rush comes through. That's effed up. Sorry. I'll bet Hermanson's dad and Lesock's dad can't believe what they're seeing.

I bet both Dad's are a little frustrated. Last week was brutal. Not sure why you wouldn't try some press coverage. Couldn't have gotten much worse. Oh wait - maybe they would have passed for 700 yards. By the way, MSU might get a few passing yards racked up against them today. Their secondary is not exactly impressive They better be able to bring serious pressure.

I hate the 10 yard cushion and hope he just drops the ball on his own pass coverage. It has never made sense to me but this is why I still don't make the big bucks I guess.

The Griz will finally be playing some nickel and dime defense today. Hope it helps our pass D and they can still keep some pressure on the QB and blitz some. Maybe with some luck it will help those two safeties be in the right place and actually make a tackle or at least slow the ball carrier up long enough for someone else to get the job done.

the griz sack the opposing qb about the same percent of time per pass as the defensive leaders in the league, i.e. the number of sacks is misleading because it comes with a greater number of chances for sacks.

The pass defense is pathetic at best. Every snap is "prevent" defense. They are bad because the scheme and defensive calls are bad. This week against what may be the worst team in FCS, they still had 2 receivers with 10+ catches and over 100 yards each. Any team can move the ball at will.

It's funny how the EXPERTS claim that the coaching staff is screwing over the players with schemes and that the players don't believe in the coaches. If you read Sean Murray's interview this week in the Game Day, he certainly doesn't agree.

What did you expect him to say publicly

#40 was awesome on d today..........on the pass rush and short pass coverage........still, even with this guy in his face, the qb was able to hit open receivers due to super soft and blown coverage.....so the theory pressure thing on the qb to play soft pass prevent is off the table.

On another note......using the line misdirection and then throwing cross field to the wideopen tight end is the oldest trick in the book.........it happened to us with the eagles game as well.....how many years do you need to play/coach to give your db's the proper instruction to defend against this play?

They showed a stat today that says the Griz have the most passing yards allowed, the most interceptions, and the most sacks in the conference, and the announcers says he does not understand it.

The last five teams have thrown on us 41,43, 53, 61 and 58 times. You're gonna get a lot of chances at all those things when that happens.
