Let me start out by saying this year has been painful not only to me but ALL Griz fans. There are a good many reasons for this pain.
As last season ended I think most all Griz fans were very excited about the 2012 season. I think we saw some very positive things from players and coaches. We had a good run into the playoffs and had gotten ourselves back into the playoffs after missing them in 2010. Missing the playoffs in 2010 was a big blow to us all and it stung.
I really had high hopes for the 2012 Griz team before the season started. I think all of us felt and saw our Griz making a deep playoff run this year with another shot at a NC.
As soon as all the crap storm started we quickly started to see those hopes of another great season quickly dashed. It felt for a while it was just one bad news thing after another. When our season started I think we all had lowered our expectations but still in our hearts hoped this team would and could over come all of this, we are Griz Nation!
For me what is hard to deal with is that really this team was in every game they played in and for one reason or another could not pull out the win. We had the Eagels beat and had MSU on the ropes. We had the talent on the field and available to win every game we played. Yet do to player, coaching mistakes and turn overs could not quite get it done. I think that knowing we could have pulled these games out and did not hurts more than just plain getting your ass handed to you.
I can not say this is the worst team in modern Griz history. This may have been the worst season in modern Griz history but not the worst team. Even with our Griz having a down season we still gave the "best" teams in the BSC all they could handle. Minus some mistakes, turnovers and the ball bouncing the other way a time or two we could have been in the playoffs.
I am not certain of what to expect for 2013. I hope for a turn around but can not say for certain that will be the case. I hope that this offseason the players stick together , work together and lead one another to ensure a better year to come. Our coaching staff may be a patch work but let's hope they work together to clean up mistakes made last season and that they can make changes to be able to lead the talent we have to return back to NORMAL Griz tradition.
Hopefully before national signing day we have all the investigations and trails complete. I do not think we can truly start to move forward and "rebuild" untill that part of this chapter is closed.
I may get frustrated and pissed from time to time about bad news, press and decisions coming out of UM and Missoula. I may spout off from time to time, but in the end I love our Griz and Griz Nation as a good many of you all do.
Even though we may not agree with everything coming out of UM we still need to show our support. If we stop doing that then Griz Nation falls farther apart and to me that is not exceptable nor an option.
Let's Go Griz! Montana.........Grizzlies........ Montana ........Grizzlies....... You can hear it!!!
