Over/Under Total Punts this coming week-end

This stat will be the predictor of this week-ends Montana games.

Over/Under for total number of Punts that EWU kick vs. MSU (I don't beleive EWU punted once last year vs. the Cats)

Over/Under for total number of Punts Griz Kick vs NDSU

I will say if EWU has to punt the ball 3 times or more, MSU will win....

If Griz punt the ball 3 times or less, Griz win.....
What say you?

Using punts as a predictor of win/loss is problematic (assuming fewer punts means better chance of winning) since if you fumble or throw an interception on every possession you would have zero punts but it would be pretty hard to win. And you could punt on every possession but have your defense outscore your opponent. It would be interesting to see a statistical analysis of punts vs. wins across a large sample to see if there is a correlation.
 
NDSU has punted plenty in the last three years. It means nothing. If anything, they've gotten field position advantage because of it, and their defense has exploited it successfully.

It was a pretty good indicator when EWU scored on 7 consecutive possessions last year against the cats and did not punt.....
I agree that there is many ways that a team may not punt besides keeping possessions and scoring, however, I will stick by my thought and use it as an indicator this week for these two games.
If the Griz can sustain drives and not have to punt more than 3 times, they will in the thick of things as I believe the Griz D will not give up more than 24 points. I know that assumes we actually finish drives with points......
The Cats on the other hand have to get EWU off the field and not get in a shoot out. No doubt that the Cats will score a bunch on EWU's D.

Which happens more? Ending a drive with a punt, or turning it over on downs?

Yes. Good punters give you good field position.

The prediction is based on the number of times the Griz punt not the number of times the Bison punt?
