yes, embarrassing ^^

He gets it. :thumb:

Okay, weak attendance, but it fure doesn't embarrass me. Did the poor play by some teams, including NAU, embarrass you too?

Ok so the two lower seeded BSC teams failed to advance. The Griz and / or EWU will have carry the load into later rounds. As always. It's not embarrassing that we got four BSC teams in and the two lower seeded teams lost out early. It's embarrassing when playoff teams draw under 5k in attendance. Yes it is. Embarrassing.

I'll say it again but differently since at least a few don't seem to get it. Maybe the fact that the Griz and a couple other teams draw 20k+ for the playoffs is embarrassing. The other >100 teams draw more like 5K and having UM and the other outliers in the same league skews the picture and makes the "norm" look bad. Maybe the other teams don't promote their product -- and maybe they do and that is all it will ever be. There aren't a lot of places like Montana where college football is really the only game in town so to see that FCS football is small time athletics in most places is simply reality and embarrassment is a waste of energy. Denial is not a river in Egypt.

Fcs playoff committee screwed up. Should be only 16 teams.
Played 1st weekend after thanksgiving.
16 strong teams, fcs has 8-10 solid programs after that D2 basically.

You guys know D2 so we will take your word for it.

My take is it's embarrassing that there are a bunch of DI schools that draw less than Carroll College or even Butte Highschool. I'm not saying you need 20k to be legit but at least fill your facility. 8-10k may be enough. But as long as there is low revenue FCS will continue to slide. And I agree with BisonNation. Too many games. 12 regular season then up to five more should a first round team advance to the chipper. 16 teams is plenty for the post season, which should end before Christmas. If UM, MSU NDSU and others are outliers, it's only in their success and we shouldn't apologize for that. FCS should be successful. A number of FBS teams should drop down and get real. Likewise a number of FCS programs should take a hard look at D2. Why is it annoying that we have a program? And I'm tired of people saying its because we don't have FBS and NFL teams. We support 26k at a Griz game, 19k at a Cat Game and 5k at a Carroll game on the same Saturday. Out of a state population of 1 million. So why does Portland Oregon struggle to get 5k to a PSU game?

Well, that's because there's so much to do in the rain in Portland.  8-)

More people probably watch Portlandia on gamedays instead of Portland State!

PSU lives in the shadow of UO and OSU. It is mainly a post-graduate degree (or second degree) school where the students' first degrees came from either of the two PAC-12 schools. Yes there are plenty of exceptions but the PSU undergrad students care more about soccer than football anyway. They don't care about basketball either. They play in a gym that isn't even as nice as Hellgate's was 40 years ago. Jeld Wen Field (where the Timbers play) is walking distance from campus. Then there's the Trailblazers. The seasons don't overlap much but students being notoriously poor would rather save their money to attend one Blazer game than go to every Viking game. PSU may draw 10K but that's it (other than when they play the Griz and jack the ticket prices up to make up for as much of the rest of the crappy season attendance as they can). EWU, even with an NC in their recent past, can't even compete with the few things to do in Spokane. PSU students and alumni have many more choices. PSU will never be more than it already is at the FCS level. If they moved up to FBS (other than failing miserably due to the lack of just about everything required to compete at that level), game attendance would go way up and mostly when they played OU or OSU.

And you don't think such poor attendance is embarrassing for a division that cries for more respect?

Attendance and stadiums in FCS are what they are. I agree with Greenacre, making fun of it is not going to change it. All it is going to do is piss everyone else off. They all know how good Montana has it, they don't need to hear about all the time.

The problem is there is not enough of 'everyone' to piss off. Besides ourselves and a handful of other programs around the country, going to an FCS game is like visiting a ghost town. I don't think the fan base is annoying, or has a superiority complex, we just have an excellent program to root for and excellent fans (quantity and quality) to root for them and we are proud of that.

Who cares if people are jacked and talking about our stadium..and weather. After all weve been through last yr and not making the playoffs..for Montanans no playoff football in Missoula is like drinking your morning coffee and not taking a shit!!!! All is right in the world again..everyone get jacked..playoff football is BACK!!!!

That's essentially how I started our annual Christmas letter!! :)

And as to any CC fans who show up in Missoula: shake their hands, wish them luck, buy them beer, and express concern they have safe travels. We should be gracious hosts, and I expect we will be, but I also expect the Griz TEAM to emerge victorious. And there is nothing wrong with that.
Both of them.

Was better with 12 teams, that way the top four are rewarded with a bye. There has never been a NC that was not in the top 12 that I am aware of. Continuing to water it down and lengthening the season is destroying its attraction.

"I hate" doesn't mean people agree with me. I however think Hermanson and Tully are still bad. The EWU game still haunts me. Goodwin is fine but I think he's the only bright spot. This also might be biased because we've had better secondaries for the last I dunno 10 ish years and this group isn't even close to any of those cores.

Two things:

1) It appears that not many (if any) of the coaches agree with you, as our entire secondary was named some level of All Conference.
2) EVERY player in the secondary, from Hermanson and Goodwin down through Harris & Rominger and Tully have gotten progressively better as the season has gone on...in scheme, in coverage, in tackling, in positioning....that bodes well for Saturday.
Very true. Hermanson has been outstanding; he played hurt all year last year and played poorly; but he is rounding into the Hermybadger we anticipated during his freshman year. We should ask some MSU fans how the Griz secondary is playing these days.

But no doubt they will be tested by CC; their QB is the real deal.

That they did not advance is not embarrassing. That they were thoroughly smoked did no favors to the perception of the BSC strength.
