fortunate. That's what I would call it. I'm not eliminating the possibility of that happening but expecting it when I would guess if Vegas were to bet we're favored by 7 at most.

 if the Griz win big, you'll call it fortunate?!

uhh yah? You're expecting a 20+ point differential? That's cute. I never said I didn't think we'd lose but... I'm not delusional and thinking this flawed team will just run all over one of the best offenses in the fcs

Huh?

Sorry too much work... basically saying that I have always said I think the griz will win

No way this gets to 17 pages (although it did get close on BWahlberg's 1st post). :thumb:

I'm afraid this thread is on it's last legs and wont be reaching the epic status of 17+ pages. We'll be lucky to see it even get to 7 :(

The person who started it got so thoroughly owned by Brint he likely wont contribute to keeping his own thread alive anymore. Also all the little sub-disputes that usually keep threads going seem to have fizzled out already.

OK, if predicting a big win is arrogant in your not so humble opinion then what will you call it if it happens? A fluke I'd guess. And I'd call anyone unwilling to consider the possibility based on plenty of past examples an idiot. We'll see who's right...

May I refer you to 2009 and our playoff game against SFA. They were, by all accounts, considered THE best offense in the FCS that year, coming in to Wa/Griz. They had games that year where they'd scored 92  , 65, 42, 41, 40 and had just put up 44 on Eastern Washington the week before coming to Wa/Griz and putting up a big fat GOOSEGG in freezing cold weather.

Our '09 game against SFA has a tendancy to get lost in the shuffle, being sandwiched between the miracle comeback against SDSU and the game of the decade the following weekend against App State....I, like a dumbass, bought into the hype and elected to fly up to Missoula for the SFA game, fearful that if I didn't I wouldn't get to see a playoff game in Missoula....then I sat through an absolute snoozer of a game and had to crawl back to Phoenix and watch the best game ever played in Wa/Griz on the fucking TV from my living room the next weekend.

Now, I'm not saying I expect another 51-0 beatdown....but it wouldn't surprise me. Our defense is not the '09 defense, but it seems to be peaking at just the right time....I'll go with 38-10....

Okay, weak attendance, but it fure doesn't embarrass me. Did the poor play by some teams, including NAU, embarrass you too?

Low attendance for other FCS teams doesn't embarrass me but it does suggest that the UM Griz is a "tweener" program -- maybe not wealthy enough to move to FBS but certainly a couple steps above other FCS schools in revenue and interest. We have heard for who knows how long about a coming BCS/FBS realignment but I haven't heard a whole lot lately. Does anyone know anything recent? Most of what I could find was dated 2011/2012 and much of it refers to conference switching by teams and not a fundamental restructuring.

Truth be told, Griz football and its fans live in a self-imposed vacuum where patting oneself on the back produces nothing but arm strain. Southern Utah and NAU spent Saturday proving that all of the hypebole about an improving BSC fraught with tantalzing matchups is little more than a lot of smoke devoid of fire. The perception of 26,000 too easily-satified fans doesn't translate into any semblance of reality...Isn't it about time to deal with it and move to a new neighborhood? :coffee:

Seeing the almost completely empty stands during playoff games is embarrassing to FCS football to be honest. We all want FCS teams to be taken a little more seriously, and for the the rest of the D1 college football world to see that a playoff system can work. Instead with the pathetic attendance numbers it just looks like small-time football. Many of our playoff teams don't even draw 5000 fans to watch their home team compete in the payoffs. That's sad.

People can toss smart ass labels at the bowls all they want like the "Scotts Toilet Paper Bowl" and make comments about how nobody watches them or cares about them, but the fact is even the lowliest of bowl games where the home team isn't even competing draws 20,000-30,000 fans.

Even the Famous Idaho Potato bowl draws 25k+ fans usually (over 29,000 last year).

So yeah, it is a bit of an embarrassment to FCS football when fans don't even show up to support the home team in the playoffs leaving mostly empty stadiums on display for the world to see.

I agree with this 100%.

The way I see it... we have a lot in common with Nebraska. Tons of history & successful teams... rabid passionate fan base that isn't happy with 8 or 10 win season... but hasn't done anything lately & is growing complacent.

These are solid points but I guess I have little faith in our defense. I think our front 7 is one of the best if not the best in the FCS but I hate our secondary. It will be interesting to watch but I expect in no way a dismantling just because they're a warm weather team

Yes, only 2 all-conference (2d) team players in the secondary. No other school had 2 in the first team except NAU (and theirs were 1st teamers).

We could derail this thread into another move up bitch fest! that will do the trick

"I hate" doesn't mean people agree with me. I however think Hermanson and Tully are still bad. The EWU game still haunts me. Goodwin is fine but I think he's the only bright spot. This also might be biased because we've had better secondaries for the last I dunno 10 ish years and this group isn't even close to any of those cores.

Two things:

1) It appears that not many (if any) of the coaches agree with you, as our entire secondary was named some level of All Conference.
2) EVERY player in the secondary, from Hermanson and Goodwin down through Harris & Rominger and Tully have gotten progressively better as the season has gone on...in scheme, in coverage, in tackling, in positioning....that bodes well for Saturday.
