other than AJ....?

Right now, AJ is the favorite to be the team's MVP. After the tournament to start the season, who looks to be the second most valuable player this year? I have not been able to see any of the games out here in Billings, but listened to most of the BSU game. From stats and comments, I would say in might have to be the Big Man Brian.

Opinions?

Watched all 3 games this weekend!!! In my opinion if they keep playing together like they did this weekend then the skies the limit!!! There is a lot of talent on this team!!! Just a matter (IMO) if the coaches play the right players at the right time!!! I just Loved the effort by all the players though!!! Tons of hussle all 3 games!!! Great Leadership in all the games!!!

2nd will change game to game, depending on who we play and strategy. That is the nice thing about this team, they are deep and versatile. They all know their roles. I am comfortable saying the 2nd most talented player is either Young or Cherry. I believe the players other than AJ, we cannot afford to lose are Qvale and/or Selvig. They allow our defense to be consistently good.

You are right 04, it's Qvale. If they don't get him involved it will be much harder for everyone else to get shots. For two out of these three games Qvale really asserted himself and we had good results. I like how he is demanding the ball at times. He's a game changer.

I like that it appears Young can score in bunches to take some pressure off AJ to be the big scorer for stretches or even a game here and there. Cherry looks to be a great defender as we expected. I just think for this team to really dominate, Qvale needs to be a 15, 9 and 2 guy. If he can do that, the perimeter will open up and Selvig will have a chance to move all over the court as a huge matchup problem!

AJ makes everybody better. Being able to make free throws is big time.

Qvales' game changed for the better over nite. If this continues beyond the LMU game it will be huge. For a big fella he can shoot a fair free throw.

I do not understand how a small player can play college basketball without a good free throw percentage.
Can free throw shooting be improved if it is a problem?

Yes, ft shooting can be improved, but only if the player does not let the changes play on him mentally. As for Cherry he has an obvious technique issue, that being his upper body and ball are all over the place. He needs a lot less motion above the waist, his feet and balance look very good, so there is hope, and should be easy to correct. I am guessing he has a lot of movement on his perimeter shots too, cannot tell from the internet feed though.

Strait had a bad habit all 4 years not staying on his toes throughout his shot, and because of that was inconsistent.

Both these technique issues can be addressed very easily, question is will the player (cherry) be open to change. Cherry's should not be dificult, all it takes is for his arms and ball be more stationary. Also with that should come natural maturation in his jump/perimeter shot.

Qvale is gonna have a big year.

I wouldn't anoint Raason Young the #2 threat yet, though. He's #2 in scoring now because he went 10-16 from 3-point range in the tournament, but he's likely to cool down, he only averaged 37% last year. He's 2-8 on 2-point FG's now.
