Onside Kick Snafu

A new rule instituted in 2012 allows the receiving team to call for a fair catch on onside/squib kicks on the first bounce. EWU placed a perfect onside kick, but once it bounced no Griz player called for a fair catch. Kaufman knocked the ball away from the Griz receiver and the rest is history. This special teams mistake has to go on the shoulder of the coaches for not coaching up the players. It cost us the game today!!

Funny, I thought 2 fumbles inside the red zone and terrible pass defense were big factors in the loss.

Since the high bounce was the second bounce, we couldn't have called FC anyways.

Just went to watch the replay and I found out it didn't record on my DVR. I believe the ball did bounce twice and you are absolutely correct that we could not have called for a fair catch. It was a perfectly executed onside kick and Kaufman made a great play on the receiver (Hermanson?). I rescind my original gripe about the coaching on this play. Thanks for pointing this out.

about as perfect of a bounce as you could hope for, if you're EWU.....nice kick....nice coverage. well executed play
