Only Selvig decision keeps Griz Men "respectable"

Anthony Johnson's emergence with a 20 plus point average since December is the sole reason the Griz are at least staying somewhat competitive. Last night's Weber game is a case in point. After AJ's 50% FG shooting the core of last year's group was a miserable 34%. He is also the only consistent shooter from an "unguarded" free throw line. The fact that the 2007-08 season holdovers (plus McGillis) are not delivering is a direct reflection on Tinkle. If Robin doesn't offer a scholarship to Shaunte there's no telling where Mr and Mrs Johnson and last night's 21 points might have gone? Not UM, that's for sure. Except for AJ, who has been somewhat candid about the team, Tink's current team can best be described as a bunch of under achievers. Teams that return a veteran core should improve. This one's gone south. Wish it weren't so...

How many seasons will it take for Griz fans to admit that Tinkle does not have what it takes to lead this program? When a major league baseball team under-achieves, the manager is fired. When a college BB team under-achieves, we want to blame it on the players???? Anyone who has watched this team can see that they play uninspired basketball most of the time. They also play poor defense, which was always a strong point of previous Griz teams.

If I read one more post about what a nice guy Wayne is, I am going to puke. Since when is the head coaching job a popularity contest? Does being a nice guy give Tinkle a "get out of jail free" card regarding winning basketball games?

I am pretty sure more people are blaming the struggles on the coach and not the players.

At least that's the impression I get from the many fire Tinkle/Tinkle sucks threads. I don't see the same regarding the players.

Based on the our defense sucks arguement, I guess all BSC coaches should be fired. We lead the conference in fewest points allowed/per game. This years defense is much better than the prior 2 years.

This years struggles are from the offensive end.

Jim Valvano when asked about an asst. coach being elevated to the head coaching job said. "They are given the job because they have all the answers. What they forget to do is divulge them." I believe the quote was directed at NBA coaches getting fired mid season and being replaced by the asst. Meaning the owners blame the head coach instead of admitting they lack the necessary talent to win. Don't know if a different set of criteria would apply to college coaching.
