Yeah, this early signing window and Dec. 15 transfer portal deadline are absolutely awful headaches for roster construction but seriously, with how Hauck and co have navigated the last few years by pulling P5 transfers and good skill position players, I don't know how badly the Griz will suffer so long as the OL can be kept in Missoula (really the only position group you can't build with transfers, and have to be developed).

One of my biggest fears going with a retread hire back in 2017 was how someone who saw a lot of success in a very different era of the sport would be able to navigate a new one. Sure, a lot of fans and boosters are worried and feel like we've fallen behind on NIL, but so does literally every other fanbase and anyone claiming to provide hard concrete numbers to compare school NIL collectives is a fraud and shyster. But I have to give credit where credit is due for this staff navigating a very intense era in the transfer portal and being able to mitigate & replace losses with good transfers on their own.

I think he has a knack for players who are men of their word and a signed commitment is their bond. As I remember Marcus tried the portal was not successful and wanted to return to the team, he broke his word to Coach, coaches, teammates and the greater Montana fan base. A Man's word is not breakable.

Colorado went from 1 win to 4...yeah, they fell apart in the end, but they DID improve over the year before...Baylor is such a hit and miss school...seems like the amplitude of their performance year to year is larger than most. WAY up one year, WAY down the next...very weird.

I think the point might have been that a group of transfers put together to play in year 1 is at a distinct disadvantage from a cohesiveness point of view. Someone brought up Colorado as an example. They are objectively good individuals, but they lacked the cohesiveness of a group that has been there together. Our line (with one exception) has been together for at least a year, now two. Save Panfiloff. But incorporating one dude is much easier than incorporating 5+. Hamer_Time has the right answer but used the wrong formula, lol.

HE GENUINELY CARES FOR HIS PLAYERS, THUS THEY RESPECT AND PLAY THEIR ASSES OFF FOR HIM.

He’s the first one to be there after any switch of personal. He gets pumped and excited for his athletes after plays. Maybe I’m wrong, but he seems like the boss that higher ups don’t necessarily care for much because they know he has his employees backs and will not allow for them to be a scapegoat.

3/5 our entire starting offensive line at the beginning of the season were transfers. Forbes and walker from Nebraska and mayginnes from Washington state. Now panfiloff is in there and he’s an Utah tech transfer.

That’s what’s so frustrating about the portal. “Commitment” and ones word have become meaningless and are by and large going by the wayside for todays players. They should change the terminology to “tentative intention” :lol:

But I think your point is still valid somewhat...they are MULTI YEAR transfers, and have been developed within the system. Remember last year??? That OL was not good.
