Brint, I have an honest question for you. Do you feel the same way about Playa Rape's self-flagellation as most of the board does, or are you content to remain politically correct and say nothing?

I think too many of you think that just because all of our O-linemen coming back played a lot last season, that they will automatically be strong due to the year of experience. Experience helps of course, but ultimately talent is the real quality. Not sure the talent is there for some of these kids. I know that I am going to take heat for this next statement, but I do not think that Lurch did a good job of recruiting O-linemen during his tenure here, and the proof is in the line we witnessed last season. I know we lost Poole and Schmaing (sp), but he did not recruit Poole, and not sure he recruited Schmaing either.

I'm going to make a comment on your post...try not to take it wrong: I've not heard many people say our O-line will be "strong"....simply strongER than last year. How could it NOT be, with an a full year of experience, another year in the weight room, another year of maturity, and the return of Schmaing? Those factors alone should make it strongER. Not a strong point of the team, but certainly light years better than last year's debacle. I'll leave it to the experts to decide whether anyone did a good job of recruiting during their time here....but given that the majority of last year's line was pressed into service a year (or in some cases TWO years) ahead of when they SHOULD have been starting, far be it from me to judge their performance.

It could not be any worse, now could it, as our O-line last year would have trouble starting for a Division II team. But, this year could just be putting vanilla icing on a turd, too. We will see. Having Schmaing back should help tremendously. The year off might actually be a blessing for him individually, giving him a chance to develop more physically, and making him more likely to be an NFL prospect, which I think he can be. If we had five of him, we would have a great line. I agree that Germer will make a huge difference with coaching them up.

Exactly. StrongER, but not necessarily a strength of the team. Hell, even a servicable O-Line will do wonders for this team's ability to score points. And I didn't even consider Germer's impact. I believe we'll all be pleasantly surprised at the O-line's development from this time last year.

Of course, then there's that issue of the inferior QB taking snaps BEHIND that O-line.... :| :| :|

I post much more relevant football stuff than you ever will. My threads are provocative, and provide fodder for conjecture, disagreement, and spirited discussion. I am the anti-sugar-coater, and this board needs me much more than you and others realize. There is a reason why viewership has continued to go down the past couple of years. Too much sucrose ruins an athletic message board.

You might actually try to understand big words before you use them. PR has said enough things that annoy me but I have never seen him beat on himself.
