Eastern had a perfect kick and a 6'5 dude with hops spike out of the UM receiver's hands. It was a perfectly executed play, I'm not sure UM could have done anything differently and recovered the ball.

If you called a fair catch, regardless of how many times the ball bounces, it might create just a fraction of a second of hesitation which may be enough to secure the ball before getting hit. There doesn't seem to be a penalty for calling for one when you are not entitled so it seems to be worth a try in the future.

If you're in a situation desperate enough to warrant an onside kick, would a possible 15 yard penalty deter you from going all out? Doubtful.
Which is why the rule is stupid.

You sure about that? Seems to me that if it's touched by either team and then goes out of bounds it's just a dead ball and would be awarded to the offense at the spot.grizcountry420 said:cameo said:Just curious, but what if we would have just batted the ball out of bounds? We would have gotten a penalty and they would have to re-kick the ball..

I think I remember Delaney saying on the Coaches show that someone on the outside missed an assignment and took an inside guy who ended up getting double covered. think he said they would re-coach that pointPlayerRep said:grizfnz said:It looked to me like if they would have teed off on Kaufman instead of going after the ball, the ball would have most likely gone OOB.

You're correct. I think they blocked the 3 guys inside of Kaufman. You can't block everyone. Onside kicks don't usually go that far, or go that high that close to the sideline. In a do-over, they'd definitely block Kaufman. Great kick. Great play by Kaufman. Lucky bounce of the ball back in the direction of EWU.
