Ol' Neverwrong; WCC

My sister was complaining today about not getting back to school in time to get tickets for games... "I'm not going to get back in time to get tickets for San Fran and San Diego!" I couldn't help but laugh a little considering the teams GU just played.

EDIT: I'm an idiot; your sis obviously goes to GU. My bad.

BTW- hhow is the Zoo these days? Is it filling up still like Swilly assured me it would? Or is it the same song and dance as always?

I would like to say that I am really not a big fan of the WCC. I believe that the PAC-10 is a much more prominent conference....just my opinion. Of course I am a little biased.

Obviously the Pac-10 is better. You don't even have to be biased to see that. C'mon Bowlesman!

Just didn't want to ruffle any feathers in case there are some big fans of the WCC reading....I know how disgruntled fellows can be when you back-bite their favorite team.

Understood. I didn't mean to come of as a jerk; I was poking fun.

So do you see the WCC getting two teams into the tourney this year?

Well in years past they have....I believe that St. Mary's will have to win the conference tournament to get in......the reason being is Gonzaga is a well known team now and have been in so much they are almost guaranteed a spot each year it seems.

I think you guys should handle USF. I didn't know USD was coming to town...you guys probably have a shot there too if the crowd comes out.

Well, it's break and I (along with most others) am gone. The losing will probably take its toll. We'll see. Weber State comes to town as the students get back so hopefully it does something. We just need to start winning. If we get on a roll in conference, the whole arena usually fills up.

And the original post kind of proves my point.

Hey, hey, hey......You heard the first dude other than us on here. Watch the name calling or else this topic will be locked.........I don't know what would happen if they ever locked this thread.

I have often wondered if there is ever an element of conference collusion that takes place in these types of situations. It would truly serve the greater good of a particular conference if multiple teams get in.... Throw the championship game? Perhaps give them a bit of the old 'if you want' treatment, hmmm?

Uh no.....Don't think that would ever happen. Players and coaches are way too competitive. Not sure what "if you want" treatment is though, so maybe that would happen.

Bowlesman knows all about the old 'if you want' tactic. I apologize for assuming that everyone did. In fact, I presume that it may be a better life for you if you have no clue what it entails.

Sounds kind of scary to me.....Must be a Berkeley thing eh?

I don't know, Lou... I played two years of college golf before coming to UM with a kid who was exempt to make it to nationals based on his prior year's performance. The regional champ always gets an invite as an individual. He said that if he were in the lead, and another player whom he liked was in second, he would consider "accidentally" coming in second instead so they both could go to nationals.

On second thought, that would be a one person consirpacy, whereas, in basketball, many would have to be on board--unlikely.

I suppose that is where the expression was birthed and incubated, but it is pretty widespread accross the nation at fine institutions. It involves implicit collusion on the part of the students enrolled in a particularily difficult course with a fast approaching exam the grades on which are to be normalized. The conditions must be exactly perfect because one student could make the whole aggangement go awry. Thus, it is usually only practiced in upper division courses with small enrollments. Even then, it is always an extremely swaggering play.

Oh, you are bringing the memories to the frontal lobe now. The 'old if you want', eh? I never actually received an opportunity to partake, but I would always hear the undergraduates singing its praises following a successful attempt.
