It's stunning how much additional info I can take in after watching it on Root. I thought we were bubble screened to death live, however EWU came out with new plays and looks in the 3rd. Gabrud was a little off in the first half with a substantial amount of overthrows. The 3rd was a total disaster for the Griz. EWU scores and we throw an interception. Another EWU TD and
we drop a wide open TD in the end zone. The tackling in the second half was atrocious. We were clearly out schemed and over matched athletically. I personally think we were fortunate to be in the game for as long as we were... :egriz:
The biggest reasons UM lost was because Gabrud is an all-american, very good and had a great second half; the D got very tired, after having to defend too many plays (28 in the 3d quarter, I believe) and started to miss tackles and not get to some plays fast enough; the swing passes were not defended well; the offense didn't take advantage of some opportunities, to score more and to help keep the D off the field; UM was starting to cramp (McKinley, Curran, etc.), lost Delaney, and I think Sandry was limping; EWU played very well, especially in the second half. It had almost nothing to do with schemes. 48 plays defended in the first half, 28 in third quarter, and 11 in the first 5.5 minutes of 4th quarter. So, 76 thru 3d quarter, and 87 in first 50.5 minutes of the game. With lots of those plays requiring plays to spring to the sidelines to defend the swing passes/screens.
