Ok, No More JJ. What now?

Not the most elusive runner that I have seen and defiantly lacks a top gear, dammit the kid is impressive. I think that the hyphen would do just fine in this offense. No top gear, but he is deceptively quick. I like that he is a decisive runner. Puts his foot down and goes, no messin around with jukes. They don't work for him anyways. He will have to learn to protect himself, though. I doubt he will be able to run people over like on the video. I think I would not be worried with him under center.

I say go with McKinney. Just like JJ he will adapt to being the starter and it helps if the threat to run is actually that, a threat. Roper had the option to run also but could not, when called on, actually do it for a full game.

You guys are right one player doesnt make a team which is exactly why the Colts looked so good last year.......just their luck.

Not to argue with you Alph, and I understand your point with the Colts (but good lord, how stupid do you have to be to keep Curtis Painter as your backup??) but which games would have the Griz lost if we didn't have the little playmaker at QB? Hell, we might have even beaten Sac. St. if we would have had someone who could throw the ball over their rolled up coverages... not JJ's most shining game. He got exposed. I think the Colts went to hell on the O-line as well and their defense was never the Steelers, Ravens or jets. Losing #18 was the shitz, but there a few more things that torpedo'd Indy as well.

if i were you guys i just wouldn't play this season. this is why. you guys play an 11 game regular season. even the most optimistic of you certainly would have had the griz losing at least 1-2 games before all this jj crap. lets say one game. so before this jj stuff, you guys could have went 10-1. well a VERY smart poster talked to an even smarter member of the football staff that said a loss of jj meant losing at least five more games. all of a sudden you're 5-6 and missing the playoffs. you guys only play for the playoffs and more specifically national titles.....so i'd just take a break this season.

good info all around. :thumb:

I'm not that worried. They are the Griz, they don't rebuild they reload. Expect an asswhoppin in Nov!

ilovethecats makes a good point. If we don't play any games this year we go 0-0. That's a NC in cat think.

minus the last part...i tend to agree with you. i think the griz could get through this and still have a fine season. i was mainly pointing to a comment that a loss of jj meant a loss of at least 5 games. just ridiculous talk.

looking forward to football.

Going strictly from their tapes its got to be Mckinney. Better athlete playing behind a lesser line than Hyphen. Needs work with his throwing motion to get rid of the sidearm stuff, but has good reads (and some good receivers) and recognizes when to feather the ball when needed. I don't know how a high school QB could send out a highlight tape without showing him throw 1 pass. Must be a reason. Hell, put Hyphen as a FB and think of the options that would give you!

I was looking at recruit highlights and I agree with you about McKenney. He looks like the perfect QB for this system. Unless the changes Rosie was making involve more pocket passing. Then Shay may be a better fit (guy has a cannon arm!).

Not picking on you PDX but we don't necessarily need a QB for "this system".

The coach for "this system" is gone.
The Griz excelled for years without "this system".
The new coach should adjust "his" system to fit the players we have.
The former coach's unwillingness to adjust to the personel didn't work out so hot in 2010.

The loss of the starting QB is bound to hurt at first.
Yet the Griz will be fine and should win just as many games without him.
:ugeek:

With this line and stable of RB's we don't really need a QB who can make plays with his feet. A QB who is accurate and can deliver the deep ball to Haynes is much more of a priority to me.

Love the upside and talent of McKinney but his mechanics are whacked, it's like a Byron Leftwich/Vince Young nightmare. I'd rather develop his talents and let him emerge down the road.

SS-H is much more talented than many give him credit for. I was skeptical when we signed him, but after watching him in numerous practices and scrimmages I've been been impressed. SS-H is fairly mobile, accurate and throws the best deep ball.

Without a doubt, my vote goes to SS-H.

*Can't believe I just typed this. Maybe my alarm will go off and this nightmare will end. Unlikely.*

I agree but who did that?
Whoops, How dopey of me... I thought the argument was the boy couldn't fit into our "run" spread option offense with 3-4 receivers lined up so we can RUN the effing ball... this idiocy called the "Oregon offense". So, Hyphenated has TWO videos on Youtube... one of his running... and amazingly... one of his PASSING. Enjoy.

Just a note - one of his passes (tho incomplete) against Capital traveled 60 yards... OMG, 17 yards further than JJ lobbed them. I love a big arm! Look out Sac. St. and SHSU!!

Again, from tapes only, still like Mckinney a little better due to his athletic ability but Hyphen has better throwing mechanics admittedly. He has a much better line in front of him but don't know how that plays into the equation. I figured something was wrong with not seeing any passes on the one tape because the defenses showed him too much respect on those outside option runs, like they were afraid of the pass. In either case, it should make for interesting competition. All depends on who develops fastest and makes the needed improvements to their games!

Kemp will NOT be the QB, period. Other places to move him so that he can shine.

A new head coach and new assistants is hurting us more than a new QB at this point. As bad as it feels we will come out and play well. My vote would be for a drop down/transfer ......but if not we will field a good team in spite of the bad (press) mess we find ourselves in. Our young QB will get better as the season goes on.

When you get down the tough get going! Things just are not going our way right now. Stay tuned we will be back with loaded guns and fire in our eyes! If you lay down and give up now you never had a chance in the first place.

SSH has more time in the system than JJ did once he got his first start. He will be fine. I would also say that the OCs system is more of a point to focus on at this point than the HC. Rosenberg's offense is going to be a new dimension and we will see less HC influence than we did with Smith/Pflugrad in my opinion. Personally, I am stoked to get the page turned on this garbage and am looking forward to seeing what this team can do with the likes of Jordan Tripp and Matt Hermanson. JT will be as important of a player at this point in Griz football that there ever has been. He is a leader, he is Missoula, and he is Griz football.

If your a JC transfer or a FBS dropdown why would you want to spend you remaining 2 years of eligibility at a place that has an interim HC, new OC and DC, under federal investigation, probably has the NCAA snooping around. What is the offensive "system" at this point?

You need Kemp at WR, better be putting you hopes in the idea that McKinney or SSH step up and play the part.

You are praying we will not get drop-down. But we will. your logic for why a kid would not want to start for the Montana Grizzlies is ridiculous.
