Ohio State Football Player: Can We Go Play In The SEC?

"While the Big Ten as a conference may be ready to make its decision on canceling the 2020 college football season, the players appear largely against it.

In an effort to perhaps save Ohio State football in 2020, one Buckeyes player had a simple question. Taking to Twitter this morning, linebacker Teradja Mitchell asked, “Can we go play in the SEC then?!”

It’s a fair question if we’re being honest about it. Notre Dame is set to play its full schedule in the ACC after a huge swath of their initial 2020 opponents canceled. Though the ACC is one of the conferences that remains on the fence about the whole thing.

However, the SEC appears to be going full steam ahead with plans for a college football season. Recent reports indicate that the SEC actually wants to get special, exclusive TV rights for when they push forward."

[Maybe NDSU and UM could combine and join the "expanded" SEC for the fall.]

"Satterfield said as of this morning he was told the ACC is moving forward no matter what other conferences do."

"Scott Satterfield criticizes the leaders of "some of these leagues and conferences" for not sticking to a plan. "That's not leadership. We had months to plan out how we're going to come back, how are we going to do this. And we've been doing it, our kids have been doing it here."

Trevor Lawrence:

"People are at just as much, if not more risk, if we don’t play. Players will all be sent home to their own communities where social distancing is highly unlikely and medical care and expenses will be placed on the families if they were to contract covid19."

Ohio State 's Urban Meyer on one of his players: “He doesn't know the meaning of the word fear. In fact, I just saw his grades and he doesn't know the meaning of a lot of words.”

Here's a tip for you. Don't get your sports news from CNN.

Lawrence has been the most effective spokesman so far I that I have seen. He makes some very valid points and he is just very rational. His demeanor is another reason NFL teams may be intentionally tanking later in the year to get him. If I were in the groups trying to save the season I would get him in front of as many mics in the next 24 hours as I could. It is hard to take politics out of the discussion and I think if you had this articulate kid speaking instead of coaches people would be more likely to listen.

it is definitely a biased source. however, as you may have noticed, i read several different news sources, including fox, to hear other opinions. both cnn and fox are bottom of the barrel sources. i don't know that unbiased news sources even exist any more.

so he's sure social distancing in player's home communities will be "highly unlikely" compared to playing football with guys who also are going to classes, etc? uh, ok.

You think 20 year olds are going to social distance on their own if classes are not held? If they have little structure in their lives and they return to their homes? I have been an advocate of social distancing, I think some of the shut downs were effective and we opened up too soon in some places and I support mask mandates. So I am left of center on almost all the arguments in this whole deal. But that doesn't mean we should stop listening to people that have other ideas. Lawrence makes valid points. What is going to happen to these players if they don't have school or football? Are they more likely to get COVID if they are in a structured environment and they are tested regularly and have to answer to their teammates and coaches or back at home hanging out with their friends? I think slamming this kid as not the "brightest" is unfair. The kid is bright and he is advocating for what he thinks is important. I am not 100% sure if they should play or not. It is not black and white but a whole lot of grey. But if anything the players have a right to be heard.

I would assume the recruits that the ACC, Big 12, and SEC are after will get whomever they want. Now, the PAC-12 and Big Ten could lose some choice prospects to those three going forward with football. There may be transfers in the offing.

pretty sure they will still have the structure, testing, etc, when they go to classes, attend study sections, weight lifting, and all that stuff. just won't do heavy mouth breathing on each other, without masks. also, i have no problem with somebody expressing what he thinks is important. just think his statement wasn't thought out much, and i believe it did say 'seems like', based on what little i know of him (mostly, what was just posted here). i could have used different words to clarify that, i suppose.
